Bootable media

Thread needs solution

So I purchased Acronis True Image 2020 for backups on my laptop and from my usb drives for my laptop, as well as a disaster recovery tool, I have used a home version previously that came with my crucial SSD drive and it worked pretty well. I downloaded the main software, the universal recovery tool, and the boot media ISO.

I also created a boot media flash drive with the actual program installed and registered and found that the media us unusable. When you try to backup or even clone a drive it states it is a trial version.

I also created a boot media flash drive with the downloaded ISO I got off my products page, and that works with no issues, and does not state it is a trial version.

Anyone know why the actual installed system is not creating a full version boot disk? This is counter productive for its use. I usually clone my drives outside of a windows boot environment to ensure no files are in use etc. Now even though I have a good working boot drive just curious why the media the actual system creates is not a full version..... I have not seen any posts that clearly explain this.

Don, welcome to these public User Forums.

When you look at your Account page in the ATI 2020 GUI, what does this show for your activation / license status?

You mention using the OEM Crucial version of ATI previously, did you fully uninstall this before installing ATI 2020?

There are no current problems with the Acronis Rescue Media Builder tool creating only trial version rescue media to my knowledge.

I agree with Steve.  I think the OEM version being there before is probably the issue.  Normally, you want to remove the OEM version (run the cleanup too too and reboot - don't worry about checking the registry keys).  Then install the full version by itself (right-click and run as administrator even if logged in with an admin account).  Hopefully, that will resolve the licensing issue when the rescue media is being created from the app then.  Most likely, the older OEM license was 2016 or something.

If your current version of Acronis True Image is Acronis True Image 2019 or Acronis True Image 2018, the new version will simply update it; there is no need to remove the old version and reinstall the software. If your current version is older, we recommend that you remove the current version, first.

HI, no I was stating I previously used an OEM version that I had before, this is another machine altogether, its a new clean install on my new laptop.  There is no other install but the 2020 version I just bought and downloaded.  I used the tool under the Acronis program group to create the rescue media builder and I tried to clone the primary m.2 SSD to a second SSD drive I put in as a backup, and the tool when I went to clone the disk stated it was a trial version, which is odd since I created it using my purchased and registered program.  As previously stated however when I went back to my product page online there was a bootable media version I downloaded and that one worked fine.

Thanks for the clarification.  Did you register the license on the new system (log in to True Image through the desktop app or provide the key and did you close and restart after before building the rescue media).  Assuming the application shows it is registered now, if you created the rescue media without restarting the app, it's possible the key wasn't updated in the registry before creating the rescue media.

Don,

Have you signed into your Acronis Account using the in app account tab?  The product should have forced you to do this before it would run but sounds like you may have just ran the Media Builder from the Windows Start button and missed signing into your account in the app.

You must sign in to your account via the Windows installed application to activate the product which automatically switches the app from Trial mode to Full version.

Yes I already did that when I installed it.  As far as if I had rebooted before I made the media, let me re-make it again and see if this is the case...

Ok so I recreated the USB media again using the application and tested it and it appears to be working, I was pretty sure I rebooted after the initial install but I am not sure if the software had been registered prior to the reboot or even just after the first reboot or not.  There was nothing from my recollection about the registration but I was sure I had done it prior to the boot media creation, however I do not think I rebooted the program after registering the lic key before making it, that may be a step I was unaware was needed but I understand the program changing a flag based on a reboot/reinitialization.

Thanks for the direction it was helpful.

Excellent!  Glad it's all worked out now, Don!
