Truecrypt-encrypted disk backup
Is it possible to perform a disk/partition backup of TrueCrypt mounted volume with the latest build of TI 2011?
I have searched the forum for relevant posts, but this is still unclear to me. I am aware about an issue with TC volumes which was recently resolved, but this affected both file and folder as well as partition backup (TC volumes were invisible to TI).
I am currently running file and folder backup with TI 2010 on mounted TrueCrypt volume on WinXP machine. This works fine. However, it is a much longer process than a full-disk backup and I would really prefer the latter.
Since TrueCrypt seems to provide block-level access (defragmenting with PerfectDisk works fine, for example), I don't see any good reason why full-disk backup with Acronis should not work.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for reply, Colin. With TIH 2010 which I am currently using, I can see and access the TC drive only when doing file and folder backup. When I go to Disk/Partition backup, the drive is not there. (Actually, in the "Partitions to Back Up" box, it shows the physical disk where TC partition is located with a text "The Disk is empty".) This is exactly the point of my original question -- can the latest build of TIH also perform disk/partition backup besides file and folder backup on TC-encrypted, mounted volumes. TIH 2010, unfortunately, won't see those as partitions for backup purposes, which is a pity, because if they can be defragmented, they surely should allow for block-wise backup.

The latest build of TI 2011 (6,597) still only shows the "Unnamed partition" (sector-by-sector) for a TC non-system partition.
I suspect you may be able to back up the partition more normally if you use system encryption on it, but this may not be an option for you.
It used to be that whether or not the partition was seen encrypted by TI depended on the position of the snapman driver in relation to the truecrypt driver in UpperFilters. I haven't tested yet if this still works since Acronis moved part of it to LowerFilters. Again, this worked on system encrypted partitions. I don't know if it ever worked on non-system encrypted partitions.

Thank you for your input, MudCrab. Any chance that the order of those drivers under WinXP could be manipulated (by editing registry, etc.)?

Yes, the order can be changed. I haven't had time to test it yet (it's on my list of things to do). However, from other TrueCrypt testing, I would guess that it will only affect system encrypted partitions (not a mounted partition). I suspect that only the system encrypted partitions are run through the UpperFilters driver and the other partitions are run through a much lower driver. This makes them not seen as normal drives.
It would be like trying to create a partition image of a TI mounted partition image.
