Image Creation Mode not available under options/advanced
Just installed the 30-day trial to see if I can do some back-up/recovery processes w/an SD card and need to be able to set up the "Back up sector by sector" and "Back up unallocated space" options, however .....
Although all the other Options menu screens are coming up and showing all the dropdown menu options as explained to me a few months back here by someone who took the time to send me some screenshots of the processes used to do this,in the Advanced option the menu starts w/"Back-up protection" instead of the Image Creation Mode..not sure why as I'm completely new to this...checked help and saw that the ICM option isn't available if you set up Acronis Cloud as the backup destination but I have my C drive indicated for this..any help appreciated....

Steve-
Really appreciate your continued help over here...
Checked into things and saw how to set up the options as described yesterday;I had selected files from the backup source instead of disks/ partitions, corrected this and was able to select the entire 32GB SD card as well as the FAT partition where the empty folders are....
However, although the scan process was thorough and took about 45 min to complete, and was repeated just to make sure everything the app was able to find and backup was located, the end result was the same-just the empty FAT partition showed up in the folder set up as the destination in the C drive....
Wonder if you or anyone else here might have ideas of how to access the "unallocated space" where these files are....

Gary, stepping back a little, what exactly is the SD card, what used for, exactly what format are the partitions on the card and how many?
There should normally be no reason to include 'unallocated space' in a backup unless it is not really 'unallocated' but being used for some purpose unknown to Windows, or else for doing a total forensic type backup to try to recover deleted files etc.

Actually although it's been several months since we were discussing this, the details are all here-

Gary, sorry but as per the line in my signature, I cannot access any private messages or even open up my own 'My Account' pages so anything we may have discussed via that means is not accessible to me so you will need to refresh my memory about the details of past conversations.

You know I was wondering about that as I actually sent you a PM as well as posting on the forum....anyways will copy/ paste some of the relevant info ....
BTW what's going on that prevents you from accessing this?

There is some problem with my forum profile that even Acronis are having problems trying to solve!

Just looked at the PM series of emails where we were discussing this and think these should help you remember things, let me know if you want me to post some more....
My usage involves a TASCAM digital portastudio audio recorder which like the cameras has its' own proprietary formatting/file system along w/a FAT32 partition used to convert their own files to so they can be read by a computer...
My card started showing a "MOUNT ERROR-POWER OFF" screen in the TASCAM although in my laptop it shows as " healthy w/no errors"..
The FAT32 partition/files are there when I open File Explorer while the other partitions w/the TASCAM proprietary files (where my tracks are) show as "unallocated space" using Windows 10 PRO Disk Management..
Went into detail a little here so you'll have a sense of what's going on and hopefully be able to let me know what you think based on your knowledge of Acronis....
Again much thanks for your help w/this!!

Gary, with the information in your post above I found your post on Reddit about this issue and the MTR partition on the SD card.
Acronis True Image could potentially be used to try to clone the SD card but this would just create a duplicate of the SD card with every possibility that the same issue would exist on the second card.
ATI would not help in terms of being able to try to recover any data from the SD card, and from just looking around, it doesn't look as if there are any such recovery tools for MTR issues unless TASCAM have any.
Any cloning software would need to use a sector-by-sector method for the MTR partition, the Acronis software should do so on encountering the unknown partition scheme, or you could use a free tool such as Clonezilla or Macrium Reflect free etc, which should also do the same.

Steve-
Really appreciate your continued help w/this and for taking the time to check out my post on Reddit which explains everything in detail...
I'm hoping the ATI process can be used to set up a new SD card that will work in the TASCAM and want to understand how to do things in terms of my Windows 10 OS,so any links to info about this would be great, also again if you think a specific forum here would be the best one to use to post the Reddit thread on I'd be interested in your suggestion....

Gary, have you tried using the Win32 Disk Imager tool which is designed to work with SD cards? This may be a better bet for your TASCAM SD card than fighting with sector-by-sector mode for ATI...

Actually this is one of the options I'm currently looking at-are you familiar with it at all?
Also wondering about something designed just for repairing unmountable SD cards without getting into anything involving backup of card in total( including what Windows sees as unallocated space)/copying it from new location on computer to new SD card....??

Gary, I haven't had any real need to use Win32 Disk Imager but it has been recommended for users with SD cards from Raspberry Pi PC's.
Windows is not very good at handling any foreign file systems as I have discovered over the years!
My most recent foray was yesterday when I was brought an old Dell laptop that had been assaulted by a toddler (dropped from height onto the floor!).
I wanted to recover all the user data from the 2.5" internal SATA HDD but Windows 10 refused to show me any content in any of the C:\Users\[user_name]\ folders when I knew there was 10's of GB of data stored.
I booted my Samsung Netbook computer running Ubuntu 18.04 and connected the same drive there and was able to see and recover all the user data (over 60GB) with very little effort!
One option you could try would be to create a Live boot copy of Ubuntu on either a DVD or USB stick and boot your PC from it, then look again at the SD card to see if the missing data is then visible?
See webpage: Try Ubuntu before you install it for information on creating a Live boot media.

Again really appreciate being able to reopen this discussion with you here...
Another person I got some feedback on this from online recommended trying Linux/Ubuntu as well....thx for the links...
My general focus is on the situation of the formatting used by the digital audio recorder being proprietary and specific to the unit itself and whether even if I find an app that can create an image file/backup of the full SD card which can be transferred to a new one,the data will go on to the new card in a way that the unit will be able to read re-formatting used in the image file/backup creation and/or the transfer process not setting up a usable SD card for re-inserting in the unit and using it's built in processes to convert their own MTR files to FAT files....
Given this is all in a grey area and my relative unfamiliarity with all the related aspects, again hoping to just be able to get the original card working again using some kind of SD repair option....

Gary, have you approached TASCAM to ask about any repair utilities that might be available?
- Anmelden, um Kommentare verfassen zu können

Initially when this happened I contacted them right away, but the only response I got was that I should have been backing things up instead of using the MTR partition only without converting things to FAT files, storing them on another source like a USB card or laptop hard drive....so unless since then they've developed something,I'm on my own here...
This is an older unit of theirs as well,so I really don't expect they've worked on anything...
The option of sending the card to a SD data retrieval company that might well work isnt in my budget given the high prices they charge....
As a result continuing to investigate online solutions ....
