Determine which ATI version created an archive.
How do I determine which version of Acronis created a particular TIB file?
I have a collection of archives from years past. Various versions of Acronis were used, ranging from ATICW 8 and 9.1, as well as ATIH 2009 and 2010.
From what I've read, Acronis will not guarantee TIB compatibility, especially between the corporate and home versions. Thus, to be certain that an archive can be accessed properly, I should use the version that created the archive. Can this be determined by inspection of the TIB file? If so, how?
Also, is there a tool to convert TIB files from one version to another? I suppose I could restore an archive to a blank HDD using the original version, and then re-archive it using a current version of Acronis. However, this seems cumbersome, and perhaps prone to error as well.
I will admit that I've never encountered a problem reading an ATICW 9.1 archive with ATIH 2010, but after reading that compatibility is not guaranteed, I wonder if I've just been lucky or if some of the data I've extracted have been corrupt and I just haven't discovered that yet.
Any advice is greatly appreciated - Thanks!

So, then I guess that also means there is no resource available from Acronis which documents which versions are cross/backward compatible? I don't personally have any issues, as all my archives are up to date with TI2010, but I'm just thinking going forward. I've used Acronis TI6, TI8, TIH9, TIH11, TIH2010, and soon TI2011.

All versions are one version backwards compatible.
There was a problem with TI11 in that Acronis changed the file algorithm between 2 builds.
So 2011 will understand 2010 and 2010 will understand 2009, 2009 will understand the last 2 or 3 builds of v11.
You mention 9.1 which is a corporate version, Workstation 9.1 was the version before Echo which is the version before ABR10.
Whilst TI 11 and WRK9.1 could read each others files if I recall correctly, there is less of a connection between the current types.
The only thing I can suggest for the future is to add a comment in the comment box as to which version and or build the task belongs to.

Acronis revised their policy a while ago. TI 2011 should support images created as far back as TI 8. It also should be able to access B&R 10 backups. The chart can be found here.
Note that "support" includes being able to restore, mount, or explore them. I wouldn't use an older image for the "base" of a new TI 2011 backup set.

Thanks Mudcrab, I didn't know that page existed - added to my book marks! :)

The incompatibility does not stop there. I've been using True Image Home versions for years, but the 2011 version is terrible. It is not even compatible within its own build level !!
I have the "bootable rescue media", the "bootable install" disk, "BartPE" and a "WinPE" bootable version. All are at the same build level. Backup operations work fine. Unfortunately restore operations do not. One bootable reports that the the file selected is not the last file in the series. One reports that the restore file is corrupt, and one at least validates the file correctly. I do not dare try a restore.
I had few problems with the 2010 and previous versions of the product, but a successful restore with Actonis True Image Home 2011 is a hit or miss operation. Unfortunately, it is mostly miss. I've had the product for 6 months now, and they are still working on a problem that I reoprted day 1.
Sorry Acronis, I'm off to find another product that I can trust.
PS: Disk Director has gone down hill too, it has less function than 2010, but at least seems to work.
