Acronis cannot assign a drive letter while mounting

Thread solved

I have a disk backup (the new TIBX format) containing 4 partitions (of 1 disk).

Exploring (by double-clicking) is fine. But mounting fails. Acronis True Image complains "Cannot assign a drive letter to a partition from the backup archive."

I've tried the following but no luck: 1. repair install Acronis, 2. reboot Windows, 3 select only one partition to mount.

Environment:

  • XPS 9550 1TB SSD
  • Windows 10 2004 64-bit
  • Acronis True Image 2020 build 25700

jiaqi liu, welcome to these public User Forums.

There are known issues with mounting .tibx files in ATI 2020 that means this may or may not work for all users.  Mounting is working better in the ATI 2021 Beta application as far as I understand.

Thanks Steve, I haven't tried the beta version yet. Just reverted back to ATI 2019 and made backups (good old TIB) all over again.

Now mounting works in ATI 2019 but takes a significant amount of time (around 10 mins) to finish (2 partitions, 400GB data). Any idea to make the mounting faster?

Thank you.

Mounting time is going to depend on a number of factors such as the size of the partition, the amount of memory available and free space available as well as the CPU being used.

Note: you could still force ATI 2020 to create Disk backups as .tib files where mount is working if needed.  See forum topic: How to create a Disk backup as .tib (not .tibx) which will create a new backup task using the older .tib format in the Windows ATI 2020 GUI.  I don't know if this would make any difference to the speed at which partitions from .tib files are mounted.
