"The drive is not ready" on new Western Digital MyBook external drive

Thread needs solution

Bought a new MyBook 1TB USB drive. Plugged it in, went into Acronis and attempted to configure a backup to be saved to it. Upon saving the configuration, received the attached "The drive is not ready" error message. Entered the specified code (0x0004000B+0x0000FFF0+0x80070015) in at the knowledgebase, and got a "We are sorry" page; nothing was found.

I did find this article, which looked promising: http://kb.acronis.com/content/4071. Unfortunately, my drive was already configured properly (Optimize for quick removal) by default.

The drive is indeed ready and can be written to. I'd appreciate any help, as I bought this drive just for Acronis backups.

Can you otherwise write to the drive? does it show up under My computer? If you go into Device Manager, are there any devices lsited as not working properly?

Yes, I can create files and folders. It shows up under My Computer. No drives shown as not working in Device Manager.
