Options button not showing

Thread needs solution

ATI 2021 build 30480. Where is the Options button? When creating a new backup the button is not visible, meaning that I'm unable to navigate to the AppData user folder and subfolders to select Outlook files.

I am able to specify that hidden files are not excluded in existing backups using the Options button, thereby modifying an existing backup, but this isn't possible for new backups. The Options button is simply not shown. Indeed, even if I modify an existing backup and select to not exclude hidden files, I still can't modify that backup to enable me to navigate and select the user AppData folder. It remains out of reach.

I am unable to browse for files and folders in the user's AppData folder. Is this a bug or a feature? It didn't exist in the previous version of ATI 2020 I was using.

Rob, are you creating a Files&Folders or a Disk&Partitions backup? I have not created any new tasks with the real ease builds but did with the Beta builds. I had no problems. Would it be possible to post some screenshots?

Ian

PS I almost missed your post - it was held in limbo as is usual when user creates their first post. And so welcome to the Acronis user forum!

Rob, welcome to these public User Forums.

Have you first select the Source and Destination options for your new backup task?

I do see the Options button for all my tasks, including when creating a new task, so if this is not shown for you it may indicate that the application did not get installed correctly?

I would suggest trying a Repair Install as per KB 60915: Acronis True Image: repairing program settings

I have recently upgraded from ATI 2015 to 2016.
I have two backups in the list.

One backup to external disk, manually started. This works fine.

And one that takes a daily sheduled backup (mailbackup).
This backup was created by doing "add existing backup" on a previous backup made with ATI 2015.
I would like to have a look at the shedulesettings. But there is no optionbutton ? (optionbutton exists for the manually started backup).
Se included screenshots from the two backups in the list.
I used the command "validate" on the backupfile (ATI 2015) used for adding backup to the list. And it's valid.

Any ideas why the optionbutton is missing ?
No daily backup has been made so far. That's why I want't look att the shedulesettings.

welcome to these public User Forums.

Look more closely at your second screen image and the reason why there is no Options button is shown by the presence of the 'Reconfigure' button, which you need to action first after adding in an existing backup file.

 Yes, thankyou for the answer.
The optionbutton comes back when clicking the Reconfigure-button.
So it's working now.

But clicking the Reconfigure-button caused a new problem.
Nothing was selected in the backup source (see image).
I had to start all over again and select files and folders I wanted to backup.

By using the method "add existing backup" I expected the program to look in the existing backupfile to see what files and folders to backup and other settings ?
But it looks like the program starts from scratch, and the user has to enter all information again ?

Can you clarify the difference between "Add Backup" and "Add Existing Backup" ?
I couldn't find anything about this in the documentation.

Reconfigure requires that all the task settings are set again as there are no settings stored in the backup files.

Add backup adds a new backup task with no associated backup files until run the first time.

Add existing backup adds a new backup task based upon an existing backup file or backup chain but with the requirement that the task must be reconfigured before it can be run.

OK,
It'e getting clearer. The backupfile itself has no information about the scheme who created it.
That information is only in the backupscheme. Right ?

But I'm still having trouble with the visibility of the optionbutton.

  1. Let's say I have a selected an existing backupscheme  for files and folders. And want's to create a copy of this scheme to a new one, and make some minor changes in this new scheme.
  2. I click the Options-button  - select  Backupscheme - "Save As" and gives it a new name.
  3. This new name then appears as last item in the backuplist on the same page. So far so good.
  4. Then I return to the main screen.
  5. Click on Add backup. A new item is added in the list with schemes.
  6. Then my plan is to select the scheme i created in step 1. But there's no optionbutton to do this.
  7. It seems that i first have to make some "dummy-configuration" for source and destination and save ?
  8. Then the optionbutton is visible and I can select the scheme I created in step 1.

>>> No - the Backup Scheme is only one part of the task configuration.

What you are doing in steps 2 & 3 above is simply saving a copy of a Backup Scheme with your chosen name with the settings as set at that time.

In step 5, when you Add a new backup, the Options, Cancel and Back up now buttons should all be shown along with the default task name, 'Entire PC' source, and Acronis Cloud (for me) destination.  You would need to click on the Options button, then go to the Backup scheme tab, then select your new backup scheme name from the list shown on that page.

You cannot use your new Backup scheme name in any other context.

Let's say I have a selected an existing backup scheme  for files and folders. And want to create a copy of this scheme to a new one, and make some minor changes in this new scheme.

To make a copy of a backup task, you need to click on the caret (v) to the right of the task name, and from the drop-down menu shown, select to 'Clone settings' which will add a new task using the same settings as the source task, which you can then make further changes to.

Not quite right no.  The scheme information for a backup task is kept in database.  That database serves as a repository for tasks and contains all configured tasks shown in the GUI.

When/if a problem with a task occurs that is related to the scheme information or scheduling then a reconfiguration of that task is necessary to refresh this information in the task database.

The purpose of the "Save as" option is to save the scheme configured so that it can used again when configuring another task without reentering the desired settings again.
