ATI Backup with boot medium or within Windows?
Hi all,
I'm using ATI for more than 10 years. So far, I've backuped my Windows PCs (drives backup) fundamentally by using the bootable medium (linux). Reason: I'm not sure whether a ATI backup within a running windows system makes issues during recovery.
I have searched for this topic without success so far.
Can anyone help me in this regard.
Every hint is appreciated and welcome.
Thx in advance
Rainer B.

Hallo Steve,
thx a lot for your response.
Nevertheless a question.
Are your statements also valid for backup the system drive C:?
What happens, when windows during backup the system drive, is doing tasks which are changing the registry or other system relevant entries?
Bottom line: Can I do any actions with windows (Installs, uninstalls etc.) without have a risk to have in inconsistent backup?
Thx and best regards from Germany
Rainer

Rainer, yes, my statements are valid for the system drive. Any VSS snapshot is a capture of all data as it exists at a specific point in time and Acronis ensures that such snapshots do not cause any fatal errors or issues if there are significant changes underway on the computer such as Windows Updates being installed etc.
My personal approach for Windows backups is that I schedule them for times when there should be minimal system activity, normally for early morning when I am thinking of getting out of bed and there should be no updates, installs etc being performed - this is to keep things as simple as possible.
As with any backup process, it is best to adopt a 3-2-1 approach, i.e. 3 different backups to at least 2 different locations and with 1 backup kept offline and / or off-site for best security against natural threats such as fire, flood, theft etc.
