mms_mini.exe is causing hi CPU load
Hi all,
during daily backup mms_mini.exe is causing a CPU load of 25 ... 30 % (1 of 4 CPUS + a part of another). The firewall is open for it for whatever, the backups are strictly local, no dashboard is needed.
I stopped the service and set to manual - found it later automatic again.
My system: i7 6700K @4.600 32 GB RAM NVMe 500GB + SSD 500GB + HD 1 TB for Backup nVidia Quadro m4000 2x28" UHD, Windows 8.1 Pro, ESET Internet Security
It's boring, I need my CPU for useful work and not for heating my office. Please explain, how to get rid of this.
Kind regards
Uwe

Steve,
it is a clean install.
My workstation lost the ability to boot after a failure of ATIH 2017 updated from 2016 in late December. I had an error message, that TI monitor could not be started and checked, that I had no backups since October. No data lost, because I have a sync to my NAS. Uninstall failed too, the cleaning tool removed the program, Acronis Universal Restore and something from my boot sector (UEFI).
Just wanted to restore a full backup from September but the boot media failed too. So I had to install OS and all programs from scratch (that was my x-mas).
Please explain the Rescue Media Builder and / or Acronis Universal Restore for my advanced system. Windows 7 needs a special compilation for install, Windows 8.1 (and 10) is working. The DVD needs USB3, NVMe and a basic driver for the Quadro to work. Lots of Linux live systems can’t boot too, or they have problems with my CAD graphic card.
Thanks in advance
Uwe

Uwe, you should be able to create Rescue Media on any of your systems, preferably on the Windows 10 system, and use this on any of the others, especially if you choose to build the Windows PE version of the Rescue Media and have the Windows 10 ADK installed to facilitate this.
Take a look at post: 127281: MVP Tool - CUSTOM ATI WINPE BUILDER where the MVP community have produced a script tool to make building the rescue media easier and includes adding extra device drivers that are needed for the latest IRST and NVMe, M.2 drives etc.
Our recommendation is to create this media on a USB memory stick rather than on DVD as this is more flexible and works better on a lot more systems than DVD boot.
Acronis Universal Restore is only needed when you are wanting to migrate your Windows OS to new / different hardware.

Steve,
I don't like Windows 10 because of it’s not conform to German secrecy laws. That’s why I’m using Windows 8.1 (in the hope it's better). Most of the larger companies in Germany are on Windows 7, but it has problems with my UHD monitors. Lots of symbols are in different programs not scaled up, 8.1 is better in this point.
The MVP tool sounds like the tool I used to create my Windows 7 installation DVD with drivers for NVMe and USB3, I will try to do like described and report here.
But most important for now is the question about the CPU load of mms-mini.exe. Stopping this service and the backup is going on, but that can’t be a solution – please help.
Thanks in advance
Uwe

Uwe, the mms-mini service is only used for the Acronis Cloud / Dashboard aspect of the product, but as you have found, it isn't possible to completely stop this from being started automatically, even when disabling the service in Windows - it will come back again.
There are known problems in the area of performance hogs for some of the Acronis programs & services that seem to impact only on some users, so again the recommendation would be to open a Support Case to register your own issue directly with Acronis Support.
See forum post: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/128187 raised by another user today for a similar issue but with the Acronis Scheduler service - see the later posts in this topic where I have cross-referenced another long running forum topic on the same issues.
There are some script batch programs in the MVP User Tools folder on Google Drive (link below in my signature) that you can use to start / stop all or any of the Acronis Services very simply that may help with the immediate impact of this issue.

Steve,
I'll rename the mms-mini.exe, maybe it works, maybe I need a linux boot ...
Some notes about the MVP script:
1st try with the link failed, caused from my fast PC I could not read the message, maybe a pause line after the message can help (?)
2nd WIN + X run as administrator and starting the batch failed too, my program folders are program files and program files (86) . Replace this in the batch and is working pretty good. I have added some drivers and got my .iso file. I will test it tomorrow.
Kind regards
Uwe

Steve,
good news.
Bootable media with additional drivers is working ;-)
Service of mms_mini.exe stopped and mms_mini.exe renamed to ~.exe___ worked.
CPU load nearly idle is 0 ... 1 % ;-)
Kind regards
Uwe

Uwe, thank you for the feedback and good to hear that you have the bootable media working and have solved the immediate performance problem too.

new versions Win 7 will no longer run Acronis unless you install the final security update. This update is only for large corporations with "Deep pockets". Yup it's not free.
