Black Screen After Clone to Larger HDD

Thread needs solution

Could someone please help!! I recently cloned a 250GB drive (OEM) to a newly purchased 750GB drive. After the clone was successfully completed I shut down the computer. When I attempted to reboot the machine I received only a black screen with a cursor. I can't do anything else. Both my original and cloned drive are doing the same thing. Can someone please provide some advice?? Thanks in advance for all your help.

Was this clone done from within Windows or using the preferred Rescue CD? Which version of Windows?

If you have not done so, remove the clone and reboot your machine with the old disk but check the Bios to make sure the correct disk is being selected.

If the old disk boots, then shutdown and remove the old disk and attach the new disk to the same connectors as the old disk.
Reboot with only the new attached. Check the bios to make sure the correct disk is being selected.

If the new disk boots, then after a few boots, you can attach the old disk for use as another disk.

If neither dirve will boot when it alone is in the PC, then go into the BIOS and check the Boot order.

If Grover's prescription doesn't address your issue (and it probably will), it could be that the cloned drive is not being recongnized by Windows as the original OEM installation. In that case I'd suggest making a backup of the original disk. removing the original and putting in the new disk, boot form the ati bootcd and restore following the directions in the userguide
http://www.acronis.com/support/documentation/

. If youo can't select the hidden partition first, then you might have to restore the main partition first to a desired size, then the hidden partition and the MBR and disk signature.

Good luck.
