No email notifications after upgrade from TI 2010 to TI 2011

Would you post your Gmail settings (port and encryption type) so that others may use Gmail. I have read that some people could not use Gmail because of some problems in this area. If Gmail can be successfully used then there is a complete bypass for Acronis apparent inaction or apathy.
Internode (my ISP) work OK for email notifications. They allow both encrypted (with authentication) and non-encrypted (without authentication) email sending so I send encrypted mail via Internode to my Gmail which filters out the emails for successful backups so that I only see the failure emails in Outlook.

I also tried Gmail and it also did not solve the problem for me.
Demon is my ISP and it works only using ATI 2009.

I just tried Gmail and it worked first go. See the settings in the attachment to this post. People have reported crashing Acronis TIH 2011 build 6696 with Gmail and TLS encryption on port 587. Gmail will also accept SSL encryption on port 465 which is acceptable to Acronis.

Refer to my above post on Gmail with Acronis. It is possible that some people are having trouble with Windows Firewall and if they have a router or router / modem at home then there may be a firewall in that also. I had to allow ports 465 and 587 through my dsl modem firewall. I don't use Windows Firewall as I have a third party firewall so I can't offer much advice there.

In researching my email problem I saw your post. However, I didn't want to create another email account to work around the limited configuration in Acronis' email notification. I've attached a image with Microsoft Outlook's and Acronis' email settings. What Acronis needs to add is the SMTP authentication.

Attached are my gmail settings for notifications.
As soon as I have anything from Acronis regarding a solution I will post.
With regards to Acronis reviewing forums from their users to fix software issues like this, I don't know many software vendors that do that. Fixing bugs, making product enhancements generally come from issues reported by users. A job or case number is assigned and it is investigated an resolved.
I'm not happy that I have to use another email account either as I have wasted so much time on this, but you have two decisions to make - do you want notifications or not?

Although I didn't want another email account, I created a gmail account. Then I opened my Outlook 2007 and created a new account. I entered the login info then let Outlook search for it and configure it. It created a POP3 with outgoing server smtp.gmail.com using port 587 and requiring authentication. It verifiedconfiguration by sending an email which is received. Google shows this process with screen shots can be seen at http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=86374.
Your screen shot "9-03-2011_8-25-02_am.jpg" is different in appearance than mine in Acronis 2010. I tried setting notification in my Acronis using your settings of port 465 and SSL but it fails. I also tried the Outlook settings of ports 587 and 25 but since Acronis doesn't have an authentication I couldn't enable it. It failed too.
In the Google support page above, trooubleshooting links for Outlook that I thought might help suggested to "Check that you are using the correct outgoing mail server port and encryption: port 587 with TLS. You can also try using port 25 and/or SSL encryption. If the problem persists, try running a telnet test to determine whether the port is blocked on your network. (more...)" I installed telnet and executed 'telnet pop.gmail.com 995' but got no error.
So for me, I still can't use email notification from Acronis.

Ray,
Just to clarify software application versions, I am using ATIH 2011 (Plus Pack) Update 1 (build 6696) and MS Outlook Professional Plus 2010.
I have included my gmail settings from MS Outlook also FYI. From memory in MS Outlook 2010 I told it a gmail account and it auto configured the server settings - normally I would manually do this.
Hope this helps, I understand your frustration.
Regards
David

You have jumped into a discussion on ATIH 2011 email notifications with a problem on ATIH 2010 email notifications. You may find better success for your problem if you searched for a prior thread on your requirements. As you have observed the definition panels for notifications are quite different between these two products and what we are saying about ATIH 2011 may not apply to your problem.
I also have ATIH 2010 on a different machine but I don't use notifications. I tried setting them up today using both Gmail and my ISP account and I could not get either to work with ATIH 2010. Back before I got 2011 (prior to December 2010) I had no trouble at all with ATIH 2010 email notifications. I recall however that Acronis has released two fix levels for ATIH 2010 (build 7154 and 7160) since I last used it for email notifications. I am currently on the latest build of 7160. The last build of 2010 that worked with email for me was build 7046. I wonder if Acronis has made some adjustments to the notifications in the last two builds of the 2010 product?

Before upgrading to ATIH 2011 with Plus Pack, I used ATIH 2010 and used the email notification with a different port setting with no problem. I was using my ISP information from Roadrunner sending the notifications first to my Microsoft Outlook 2003 account before switching the sends to my Hotmail account, both of which were done successfully.
Several weeks ago I installed the 2011 products, built 6696, and fooled around for a number of hours trying to get the notification setup to work, of course to no avail.
I found this thread today after trying again to set up the notification. I already have multiple Gmail accounts so I decided to try using Gmail within the setup. Since I sometimes do not access the Gmail accounts for months on end, I didn't want to be locked into having to check the Gmail account of notification, so I set up the chosen Gmail account with a filter to forward only mail from Acronis to my Hotmail account and this work around works as smooth as silk.
It is definitely a shame that Acronis has not made the effort to fix something that is now broken that worked perfectly in a previous version, but at least some of the users-helping-users have stepped forth to discover some available work arounds and for this I exclaim...THANK YOU!

Catherine,
Just wondering, why didn't you just set it up to e-mail you direct at Hotmail but using the Gmail SMTP server?!!?

Hi Steven, do you have this working on your setup or is it an idea that might work?
I have wasted hours trying various suggestions here but none work.

It's working fine for me, but I'd still prefer to be able to use my own ISP's SMTP server!
Server: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 25
Username and password
Encryption: None

if you use a pop3 mailserver
1 - in notification settings: enter in dialog all information you have
2- then find scriptfolder from acronis
(C:\Users\All Users\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts)
3- change script manual: (with notepad)
(check datestamp = last opend)
4- change to:
" email address="***@***.***" enabled="1" encryption-type="none" from="***@***.***" long_format="1" pop-before-smtp="true" pop-server="POP SERVERNAME" pop-server-port="110" server="SMTP SERVERNAME" server-port="25" subject="*********************">
"
so: remove passwordstring (keep one space before and after)
remove userstring (keep one space before and after)
set pop-before to "true"
use servername = incoming servername "pop.***.***"
fill in from= "your mailadress"
save file as "scriptname as before" +.tis
(asks for overwrite -yes)

Can anyone inform if this was by any chance fixed with the June update? (Build # 6857 ?)
Change log.

Nothing similar is listed here...
This bug is killing me.

I've been using authenticated / SSL email notifications OK pending the fix and tht still works in 6857. I will be testing to see if standard unauthenticated pop has been resolved tonight. The GUI for setting up notifications doesn't appear to have changed, so I'm not optimistic going into the testing. :( But I'll post my results later tonight.

In the release notes we have a bland comment like this about email notifications.
For those who are having trouble in this area let us hope that Acronis have sorted it out. Please post your findings so that others may benefit. I have been OK all along so I hope they haven't screwed up my settings. I am waiting for a few weeks before I implement Build 6857. I look forward to your experiences.

OK... I was able to get standard POP / SMTP to work. I still needed to put my valid USER and PASSWORD in the setup or sending a test message would fail - even though the SMTP server does not require authentication.

Did you guys try the latest build? Is this issue fixed?

This is now working in the new build for me WITHOUT a user name and password, using my normal ISP SMTP server rather than Gmail! :-D
James - not sure why you still needed a user name and password for yours to work OK? :-/

I'm not sure either. If I just put in the SMTP server, port 25, and a recipient address it fails the test send. I have other programs that send messages fine with only these 3 settings. My email server does seem to handle authentication if I provide the username and password... but they must be valid or the test message fails.

The latest build does not fix things with my ISP.
Using ATI 2009 it still works but on a different computer using the same settings ATI 2011 build 6857 does not work.

On 6/13/11 I updated to build 6857. I did not update the "job' and backups and notification continued to function properly. On 6/21 I creatd a new job and attempts to send the test message resulted in "Network Error" Message. I was using the "gmail" solution, and have not yet had a chance to attempt to resolve the notification message problem.
