TI Home 2009: Backup file naming convention?

Thread needs solution

I created a nightly backup task, selecting the suggested "Incremental" method which first creates a full backup and then creates incremental backups based on it. I also chose to create a new full backup after 6 incremental backups and to remove the old archives, so I'd always have one week's worth of backups saved.

When creating a nightly scheduled backup task for the first time, the GUI suggests a file name of "MyBackup.tib" for the first full backup. As the task is run each night, the incremental backup files are then called MyBackup2.tib, MyBackup3.tib, etc. until it has the 6 incremental backups and then starts over with a new full backup.

However, at this point, it chose to call the new full backup MyBackup8.tib and the subsequent incremental backups are called MyBackup82, MyBackup83, etc.

Presumably at the end of this sequence, the next full backup will be called MyBackup88.tib, and the subsequent incremental backups will be called MyBackup882, MyBackup883, etc.

This suggests that after a while, I'm going to have some really long, really silly filenames attached to my backup archives, and might even exceed the maximum length of a legal Windows filename after a while.

Am I interpreting this correctly?

Is there some setting in the task config that will avoid this naming situation?

Hello Bert,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

There is no way you can get rid of the numbers at the end of each new set of backup archives as the program was designed to operate in this manner. Though you can create batch file to give new backup archives selective file names it may lead to incorrect functionality because the program has its own meta database which corresponds to file naming.
