Acronis True Image Home 2010 doesn't start without internet connection

Thread needs solution

For security and maintenance issues I disconnect my PC from network.
After I did this I wanted to start True Image to make a backup from my system partition c:\. But the program didn't start, it kept hanging in the initialization phase and after a short time the whole windows system hung. I had to switch power off.
What for True Image needs internet access?
How can I change this?
How can I take a backup from a PC without any network connection?
I would appreciate a fast and acceptable answer.
Many thanks in advance.
best regards

Holger,

I cannot answer your question. ATI is not supposed to required an internet connection.
That said, if you have some backups that are done over the network, it is possible not having the network available throws off ATI on startup when it does its internal checks.

Anyway, a workaround is to do your backup from the CD.

Holger,

Check out the upper right corner help of your TI program and make sure the "check for updates" option is unchecked. The uncheck option does not show up until after the check has been completed.

You are correct. I did backups over the network in the past. But what has that to do with actual backup intentions? Those internal checks are dispensable. If there is no other way than using a CD to get a backup, the tool is obsolete for me. Your hint is an unacceptable solution, let's say it is no solution. Aside from the complete hanging windows system. The tool just stands still without an error message and causes the complete hanging of wndows.

Holger,

I cannot fix the software for you, but here is what I would do if I were in your situation:
- move manually the TIB files to keep to another folder,
- delete all my backup tasks from ATI,
- uninstall ATI, reboot, reinstall with the internet connection OFF
- reset my backup tasks,
- try to use ATI.

This process will clean out the ATI database, so the checks I was talking about wouldn't happen. You would also take out the possibility of some simple corrupted installation possibility.

You would be left with the possibility of an internal bug, or some deeper installation issue.

At that point, your only options are:
a) to do your backups from the CD when you need to do a backup withou internet connection,
b) to pay for support and see if they can fix the problem,
c) to try the latest ATI version,
d) to try some other backup software to fit your needs when you don't have an internet connection.

Pat,
thanks a lot for your huge engagement and at least for your answers and hints. I was thinking about a reinstall myself. I'm using the latest version already, so if this won't help I'm really sure there is a bug in the software or they want to gather information when usin ATI. A K.O. criteria for ATI is that they charge for support. As far as I can think about this problem I think your solution option d will be my decision. Nevertheless many thanks for your efforts.
