ATI 2011 - bootable rescue media - shutdown after backup can not be cancelled [Case 00987580]

Thread needs solution

i'm using build #6597 bootable rescue media and fire up ATI 2011 PP.

  • i create a new image for one of my partitions
  • i enable the checkbox to "validate" the backup
  • when the backup process starts i get a window with a progress bar. below there's a checkbox to shutdown the computer after backup creation. i enable that checkbox.

now, when backup and validation has completed there is a countdown saying that the system will shutdown in 15 seconds. there's also a button to "cancel" the countdown and shutdown.

when i click on it it does not cancel. instead it's rebooting immediately!

looks like a bug to me.

Perhaps the error message needs clarification.

If you are cancelling a shutdown, then one logiical interpretation is that you want to stop the shutdown--thus a restart.

On the other hand,
If by clicking cancel, you are only wanting the shutdown to occur faster, then a rewording of message might be in order.

Perhaps, the word Cancel should be changed to
Cancel/Restart

thanks for your reply. but i don't fully understand what you are saying.

if there's a countdown for the shutdown i'd expect there to be two options:
1) ok, do it now. immediately. skip the countdown.
2) cancel! i changed my mind. i do not want to shutdown. cancel the shutdown.

and that's exactly what TI is doing: it shows a countdown message with two options:

  • shutdown
  • cancel

and the cancel button does have a bug, obviously.

If countdown has not begun, it is also possible to uncheck the shutdown so it does not happen.

As your suggestion is an enhancement to the program and Support does not read all postinigs, it might be worthwhile to add your suggestion to the "Wish List".

thanks for the hint.
however, this is no enhancement request. it's a bug report.

i have just opened support ticket [Case 00987580] so i'm changing the thread's title accordingly.

i got a reply from customer support: it seems the engineering team is working on a fix for this issue.

in total i have observed various issues when it comes to invoking a "shutdown" from the different acronis components on the bootable rescue media.
i'm attaching a complete summary - just in case somebody else is interested ...
