True Image 9 newbie question

Thread needs solution

Greetings all...

I want to use TI 9 to make clones of my son's desktop and wife's laptop. I plan on using a sata drive and dock for my son, and usb-ide adapter for my wife's laptop. I plan on making the clones then putting them away for safekeeping in case of an emergency.

Do either of the backup (destination) drives need to be formatted first?
Would I just use the "Clone" option to do what I want?
As far as using either "Manual" or "Automatic" mode, which should I use? The new drives will be larger than the old. The desktop has sata, laptop is ide.

In automatic mode, will it keep the original "source" system intact? I know in the manual mode it will ask what to do with it.

Because it is being cloned to a larger drive, will I have to do anything to make sure that I get all the extra space?

Is there anything else I need do to make sure that the cloned drives will be bootable?

Sorry for the length, but this is all new to me and I could really use the help and advice of you experts.

Thanks for the help,
Frank

Truly amazing. Three simple questions I thought would be answered in hours, and not a single response. So much for using Acronis. I guess it is back to Norton Ghost.

Some of us volunteers do like to sleep occasionally.

1. Format not needed.
2. Clone will work but not the preferred choice of many. Read item 7D inside my signature link.
3. Automatic mode may or may not work for you. Have you checked the Windows Disk Management graphical view to see what partitions are on the drives being copied? Recovery or diagnostic partitions should be kept the same size and automatic mode will not keep them the same size. Manual mode give you more control.
4. Check item 7C in my signature index for info on cloning. Use 7B if you choose to restore.
5. Perform procedures when booted with the TI recovery CD.
6. Use the "reverse clone" method if you choose cloning and be sure and remove the source drives before first boot following your procedures.
