Can't create ASZ

Thread needs solution

I have not been able to create the ASZ on one of my three computers. (3 machine license) Everything looks normal until I select proceed to create it. At this point, it hangs with the icon in the notification area showing 0% complete, for hours. If I cancel it, I get a message about being unable to create ASZ on the disk. Everything else works normally.

The problem machine has WIN7 Professional 32 bit SP1. One of the other machines has the same, and the other has XP Business. All have ATI 2011 version 6857. The problem existed with the previous version. Both working machines have a single HD with single partitions.

The disk configuration on the problem machine is a bit different. The are two NTFS 320 GB HD disks at least 80% empty. Each has a single primary partition. According to a partition manager, they are assigned as follows:

C: System.
D: DVD/CD.
F: Active and boot.

I have tried both disks with the same result. Both disks have been error checked and defragmented using the Windows utilities. They both check good.

One other observation. When I backup on the other WIN7 computer, I get a green progress bar, and a check box to turn off the computer when finished. On the problem machine, I have neither. Only the icon in the notification area which gives the percent completed. I would have thought that the same program version and OS would look the same. Any suggests?

Check this link and see if it might apply. It not applicable, try creating the SZ from the TI Recovery CD.

Unfortunately the partition situation does not apply, and the disks come up clean. I will try the recovery disk suggestion a bit later.

I tried the recovery disk. I now have an ASZ, but that was not the real solution. The solution was to wait a long time. I started the creation process, and as with the normal program, the HD disk spun constantly, but nothing seemed to be happening. I went out for about 2 hours on an errand, and when I came back it showed 8% complete. I just let it run over night, and when I checked the next morning, it was 97% done. Breakfast and a shave, it was done after 19 hours. This was on a 320 GB drive about 15% full and defragged. ??? I have added or resized the ASZ on other machines, and it never took more than several minutes. Thanks for the suggestion which eventually got me there.

The norm is for this process to take just a few minutes. As the secure zone is Fat32, a reformat may have extended the time but this time is way beyond normal. Glad you got it working anyway.
