Acronis TIH10 -- Password on archive requested but have never given one
Hi, i am running into a problem with an older version of TrueImage home. I am using this version for years so i am a bit confused how this can happen. Maybe someone can help me.
This is the way I walked:
- made a backup of my win-system partition using a usb drive as target (like several times bevore) using the boot-CD of TrueImage.
- double checked there was no password given
- wanted to recover my system partition TIH10 requests a password !
- open the same archive with the trial version TIH2011 requests none
This was not the only archive behaving like this, so any comments are very appreciated.
Thanks,
.. frank

Thanks for replying, I am not using Secure Zone but Backup Archive and Tasks. Never applied a password. It was the first time I saved a "large" disk partition (170GB).

When you say TIH10, are you saying TIH 2010 or TIH v10? Did you produce the image with it or with another version?

TIH10 := True Image Home v10.0
TIH2011 := Trial Version of the latest 2011
TIH10 created the image without password given but requests one on open.
TIH2011 opened the archive without password request.
However, I could spend some money and buy the newest version of TIH but I feel very comfortable with the old version, because I can do evertything how and when I want using the Tasks. The new TIH2011 wizard does not do the things I want - maybe with some time discovering the options it would. But still the tasks are missing that way and there is no option to import all the old settings. Regards, .. frank

I think the v10 behavior is a known bug and I believe you can get through with a blank password, if I remember correctly.

Hi, thanks a lot so far. I tried to do so but it fails, too. Hmm, whatever went wrong - I will make a new try in the next days making a new archive and I will see what happens.

Today I had some time to make a new try with Acronis True Image 10 Home. It seems that the length of the Path to or the name of the archive itself caused the problem.
I made two approaches. One with a "long" path and archive filename "G:\Acronis-Backups\99-System-Backup\C\Zwischenstand2\C-Partition-vollständig.tib" and another one with "G:\C1.tib". None of them had a password given. Accessing the archives later the one with the "long" pathname and the "ä" caused a password request, the short one did not.
However, the ability to handle complexer achive-paths could be a reason why TIH2011 (see above) was able to open the archive without erroneus password requesting like the older TIH10 did.

Ok, writing the last post I had the Idea simply to remove the "ä" from the archive filename. And this was the solution. TIH10 did not request a password anymore. Didn't have to re-create the archive. Simply remove the "ä" from the filepath.
