Restore Failed. Online Backup corrupted. Failed to recover Item. CHECK YOUR BACKUP ASAP!!!!

Thread needs solution

Test your backup by doing a full restore NOW!!! Before it is too late!!!

I've being using Acronis Online Backup for over a year now and always received the confirmation emails of successful backups. I always had the feeling my data was secure online until a couple of weeks ago when I tried to do a restore and it failed.

Yes, my backup got corrupted on Acronis' servers and I lost over 1/3 of my files. The message I get is " Failed to recover item. Read error or data content is corrupted".
On doing some research here on this forum, I found other users that had the same problem and I found out Acronis does not check the integrity of the files when we do a backup leaving it prone to corruption.

Technical support on this case has being extremely disappointing. I wasted hours with tech support on the phone the day I discovered the problem and got no solution. It took them 1 week to send me an email making a few simple questions that I replied on the same day. Than it took another week for another email saying they did not receive my response! It's like they are just stalling my around!!!

They lost over 1/3 of my data. My life, my work, my family!!!! And nobody cares!!!

I repeat: DO A FULL RESTORE TODAY!!!! to test your backup before it is too late.

I hope this helps someone out there not to lose precious data like it happened with me.

I certainly appreciate your concern. But I wonder ... the restore might work today, but what about tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after.

Yes Acronis Tech Support could be improved, in my opinion, and there is no questions that there are issues with their ATIH2011 software and the Online Backup Service. No way to recover from an interrupted backup there - I have over 12 GB of "orphaned" interrupted backups showing and no way to remove or recover them. Tech Support just keeps telling me to start all over, but I have already done that three times and each time, during the three days of backing up at 532 K/bits per second, something causes one or more "interruptions" and I am back in the same boat. Seems to me AOB should be more robust and delete or be able to resume interrupted backups.

I guess the lesson is to ensure you have multiple backups of critical data files, online and elsewhere.

I am going to stick with Acronis for the time being, in the perhaps naive hope that ATIH2012 will address the many bugs in the ATIH2011 product.

Have a great day, and thanks for the warning.
