prob cloning laptop HD to SSD -- "bad images"
Hi,
- Vista business 64 bit
I cloned my laptop HD to SSD and it went smoothly. The errors I'm getting are 'bad image' for various exe's and dll's; ie.
" GoogleUpdate.exe - Bad Image
C:\Program Files (x86)\Bounjour\mdnsNSP.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. "
These alerts pop up continuously, probably mostly from stuff running in the background.
Nothing found in KB. Thanks for any help.

Hi Pat,
I have a related question.
I plan cloning my notebook hdd to ssd. The hdd is 1.2 terabytes with two partitions C: and D: of equal size. The SSD (yet to be purchased) will probably be 250 GB which is more than big enough. I would like to get rid of D: and keep only C: (system partition) but C: would have to be downsized.
The question is ... is this possible (manual mode, for example)?
Best wishes,
k.

This will work only if the amount of data in C:\system is smaller than the capacity of the SSD.
The best way to do this is to do a disk and partition backup onto a USB disk.
First note the partitions you have on your current disk (look at the windows disk management console, not windows explorer), and which one is active.
No need to do a sector by sector backup.
Include any partition except the D:\partition (include any system reserved, OEM, recovery, Diagnostics partition in addition to C:\System that you might have)
Replace the disk by the SSD
Boot the computer on the recovery CD
Recover your partitions one by one, in the same order as they were on the other disk.
Do not resize any partition except C:\system
Mark the right partition active
Do not change the drive letters
Finally restore the MBR+track0 and the disk signature

I forgot one thing. When you restore the first partition, set a 1MB space just before the first partition. This will align the SSD.
