Backup Failure - User Name or Password
I am using Acronis True Image Home 2011 Plus Pack. I am attempting to back up to an external USB drive, which is connected to my Linksys E3000 router. I have all necessary rights to the router and the external USB drive.
I received the following error:
"Failed to prepare data stream. Check whether the source and target partitions exist."
On opening the error log, I noted the following issues:
"Error occurred while opening the file."
"Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password"
I have had errors with Acronis accessing the external hard drive before and I had thought I had resolved them by specifying the path to the device as \\192.XXX.X.X\Path\. I also created a user name and password just for Acronis to use, which I put in the Credentials. I noted today that when I went to Backup Operations and chose to open the backup location, it had a different user name and password. I corrected them and was able to open the backup location. Acronis, though, still gave me the error message.
The usual pattern I have seen with Acronis is that I will go in, tinker with the backup settings (reselect the backup location and re-enter the user name and password), and it will work for a few days. It eventually stops working. This has plagued me AS LONG AS I HAVE USED ACRONIS SOFTWARE!!!!!
I am attaching my backup log.
I purchased Acronis software based on a very favorable review on CNET. I hope you have a solution that will work. This is going to be my last try with Acronis. If the software continues to be ineffective, I will post an adverse review and find something else.
Thanks
