The installer worked once, but now fails

Thread needs solution

I purchased Acronis True Image Home 2011 (build 6857) as an upgrade to an older version (2009 I think) for my Windows XP system. I uninstalled the old version and installed the new version with no problems. However then I had to restore my system to an earlier backup due to a virus problem, so I once again had the older version of Acronis. So I again uninstalled the old version and tried to reinstall the new version. However this time the installer failed with the message "The installer was interrupted before Acronis True Image Home 2011 could be installed. You need to restart the installer to try again." as well as "Installation program encountered error #1603. Possible reason that I don't have enough privileges on this computer."

However I am logged in as an administrator, so I don't see how privileges can be a problem. I tried to clean the registry of all the references to Acronis True Image to make it look like a fresh install, but the installation error message remained the same.
I looked at the log file ("install_log.txt") and it suggested following the instructions at http://kb.acronis.com/content/14342. Based on a suggestion there I deleted all the files in my %TMP% folder and tried again - however the error message still did not change.
I was thinking I might try re-installing the older version again, but I can't seem to find the older install disk. (I do have the old serial number however, which I know the 2011 upgrade installer will ask for).

How can I proceed to get the installer to run?

Install log from latest install attempt is attached.

Thanks
~Paul

Hmm, no comments on this problem ... oh well, perhaps I posted in the wrong forum.

At any rate, I've tried the Acronis system cleaning application several times and many other suggestions. After running the install program dozens of times always getting the same uninformative error message I was about to give up on Acronis altogether. However I knew Acronis could run on a clean system and that my system must still have some remnant of previous installations left behind, so I googled "windows system cleaners" and that's when I ran across "Revo Uninstaller". Even the free trial version of this program puts the Acronis system cleaning application to shame. After running Revo Uninstaller a single time, the Acronis installer ran smooth as silk! I'm amazed the Acronis people have not discovered this gem and recommended it to the apparently large number of people on the forum who can't get this program to install.

If I am not mistaken, you can register the old version at Acronis and that will allow you to down load the old version. All you need is the serial number and you can download as many copies as you need.

Paul,
Yes, Revo works very well for many of us and is recommended as needed.

Acronis also offers a cleanup utility as well. See signature.

Once you register any of your Acronis products, they can be downloaded by you at a future date--should the need arise.

Paul,

Check that your Windows temp folder is as empty as Windows will allow, files left in this location will sometimes cause the installer to fail.
To get to the temp directory, click on the Windows Start button + r then type in %temp% and the correct folder will open up.

> Check that your Windows temp folder is as empty ....

Interesting that all of the sudden I should get so much advice ... after I already posted that I solved the problem.
The Acronis cleanup advice is lame because I already mentioned that I tried it to no effect.
I suppose the temp folder advice isn't really lame, but it is the most touted advice to installation problems and indeed was the first thing I tried (to no effect).

Thanks anyway ... I guess :)
