file backup fails
when I do a file backup it stops at \ Users\ Bill\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.dat.
I've tried 3 times.
I have cold booted and immediately started the File backup, but it still hangs at that file.
How can I fix this?

Richard, I am pretty much the same way.
I don't care about incremental backups, online backups, non-stop backups.
I just want to do complete backup of my ENTIRE C drive about once a week.
I run it overnight.
I don't understand what the difference is between file backup and disk backup but I do know that when I was successful using a file backup with a previous version it was much smaller than the disk backup.
Under ver 12 I can do a disk backup and I presume it will restore, although I have not tried to restore from it.
I have the defaults set to validate the backup and it says it's ok .. so i just sorta trust it. Will probably bite me one of these days.
But I would like to have file backup working too so I can do both kinds -- just to be on the safe side because Murphy's Law lives in my computer.
Since build 6042 is not on the website where / how did you get it?

Arizona Willie,
There is a fundamental different between a disk backup and a file backup. The former is using the information at the sector level, that allows you to take a snapshot of your disk and restore it as it was, without any trouble with system files, registry, applications, etc. The latter is using the information at the file level. It is not designed to help you restore your disk to where it was before a disaster. You can restore individual files with either a disk and partition backup or a file backup.
If you want a complete backup of your C:\ drive, use a disk and partition backup, switch to disk mode when you set it up and select the disk where you system is. Also create a recovery CD, boot your computer on it and try to restore a couple of files to make sure the CD is working.
You can have a redundant backup of you irreplaceable content, or for the content that is not on your C:\ drive. For this use a file backup, or any online backup...

A few years ago I woke up on a Saturday and the hard drive was, well... in no shape. I use my computer for work!
Eventhough I had a backup, it did not work. I ended up starting from scratch. It took me over a week of a lot of pain.
A lot of pain is when you are force to use your full "data" backup".
Eventually I learned about "bare metal restore". Let's say your hard disk is XYZ 300G and you religiously make an Image, once a week.
The disk crashes! All you do is get one similar = 300G (with the plus pack you can have different hard disks).
Set the new hardisk, connect your Image (probably on a USB), fire up your bootable Acronis CD. In my case, I am up and running in less than 1 hour. No sweat.
I do 1 image to USB#1, another image to USB#2. A "full" data backup to USB#1 and then a file copy to USB#2.
If image 1 and image 2 fail, you got to use the full data backup and endure the pain.
I have 2 similar hard disks and one is always disconnected. Every two or three months I switch hard disks and fire up the ATI CD.
Also my PC is always on (except for the switch).
After putting the new build (6042) my backupup setup seems to work.
But I get this "No windows libraries". Apparently for Windows7. Who cares?
ATIH2012(6042) bootable CD does NOT work.
Acronis Support, here I come again! And will be back on ATIH2011 which has worked perfect for me!

1. Don't forget b6042 is not a release build as yet, therefore it may well be at an intermediate stage where many problems have been fixed, but not all. I imagine they offered you this build as they thought it would get you going in the interim period before update one is released.
2. Did the recovery CD for b5545 work on your system? You haven't mentioned what doesn't work with b6042 recovery CD.
3. It is always a good idea to run a validation on any disk/partition image just to make sure the Gremlins haven't been out to play and of course to ensure (as you've done) that the recovery CD can boot your system and see all your drives.

I really don't care if 6042 is official or not. All I know I did not make it up!!
Since at night I am sleeping and the computer is not, I let it do all the validations it wants!
In the morning I check the USB drives for the Backups and then the ATIH logs. And so it goes since True Image 9 Home.
It is not like we were born yesterday.
5545 vs.6042: Today, I spent basically all day long massaging this ATIH. I never tried 5545 Boot CD. Because now I am on 6042 and it does not care about 5545. 6042 Boot disk gets you to the basic menu and when you choose ATIH it looks like it does one of those "safe mode" boots. It sits at some point (I don't care) and that is it!
So, I am ready to use my ATIH-2011 Boot CD and go back to last night Fantastic Image!
How can they release this crap. All they have been doing is FLUFF. The worst part it they put it out! And take my money!
After two weeks of this, I lost two weeks of my "free" support.

My point being Richard, that build 6042 is not released to the general public, therefore Acronis obviously thought they might be helping you out by sending you a more recent internal build, the fact you have a problem with it would in fact be information that would be useful to them.
They haven't released the build you are now complaining about, they allowed you to try it.
How did you expect top perform a recovery with build 5545 if you didn't make a recovery CD? This is one of the first things that needs to be done on each new version and build, and then tested, otherwise you have no way of knowing if there is a problem or not. It is more than possible that Acronis have updated the recovery CD between 5545 and 6042 and again with whatever build becomes the update 1 release.
Now. I've never quite understood why adding in extra drivers means they then take out previous ones, and as they never use the latest Linux kernel that shouldn't be a reason for failing to boot, unless the user has brand new hardware that Linux has not caught up with as yet. But the fact is that does happen. Again it is useful to Acronis to know that your recovery CD update has a problem, they might be able to solve that in time for the official update. We'll never know now if it was the 2011 -> 2012 recovery environment that became broken for you and others that may have the same setup as you or whether it was between 2012 builds.
I don't see how you've lost two weeks of support as from what you have written, you've been using support as they are the only ones that can make available to you unreleased software.
I leave you to your massaging of software.

Well...The "free" support starts when you pay and that was two weeks ago. And 2012 does not fully work yet.
And yes, I have informed Acronis of my latest problems (through the original incident):
1. Cannot create working boot CD from Acronis;
2. Several "No windows libraries" logs, whatever that is;
3. On an OEXP backup, it shows in the log, every single message that was backed up (quite extensive stuff); and who needs that! All you need is: did it work or not.
Since build 5545 did not fully worked, I was not going to get stuck with a half backed potato! No point in trying the boot CD.
Now the same applies to 6042! Have not tested the 2012 "Plus Pack". One of these days I will.
They took the money and I expect a fully operational package. I totally rely on Acronis working every single time.
But I am not their "tester".
By the way, I downloaded the "Bootable Media" and created a boot CD per their instructions.
It boots OK.
In order to verify that it works, I would do an "Image" backup and then use the new CD to restore it.
I have done several backups (following my .BAT file) over the past 24 hours and now it is getting to be a big time comsuming excersise.
What I will do now is turn off the machine, switch hard drives, turn on the machine and voila, I am back with 2011.
Less than five minutes.
Because Monday morning I will be ready to work!
