mbrautowrite_en.iso file but for vista sp2
Hi,
This is a thread (old before Acronis had own forum) that I read on the Wilders site. A link to the thread is:-
https://forum.acronis.com/node/add/forum/1909. The main post is the one from Michael Levchenko (Acronis Support) and is the last post on that thread (this post is also copied just below).
I activated Acronis Startup Manager without fully understanding that my Vista (SP2) MBR would be re-written by Acronis software. Michael kindly supplied a download fix to revert back to the original Windows MBR, but this I believe was for XP OS and not Vista. Please could you provide a similar download .iso file, so that I can use it to revert back to my original vista MBR.
Thanks.

Hello all,
Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup software (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/)
In order to fix MBR (restore it to default) you can download special Acronis utility (http://download.acronis.com/support/mbrautowrite_en.exe). Use it to create a floppy and boot the machine from the floppy.
If you prefer to a fix MBR using a CD, then please download special ISO image with this Acronis utility (http://download.acronis.com/support/mbrautowrite_en.iso). Use it to create a CD and boot the machine from the CD.
The MBR will be rewritten once you boot the computer from the created media and confirm that you want to fix the MBR.
To JohnnyBravo - could you please provide additional details regarding the issue?
Thank you

Hi Richard,
I have checked the mbrwizard site out and it appears they do not cater for Vista, only do XP. Also they have disabled their support form, so can't contact them either. Where now?

According to the MBRWizard 3.0 notes that I've read it includes "support for Vista, Server 2008, and Windows 7." But if you have a Vista setup disc you can use its MBR repair function instead. See http://www.winvistatips.com/fix-mbr-t116.html
Or just google "mbr fix" and take your pick of several options.

Hi Richard,
I don't have a vista disc. Vista was already installed when I bought the pc new.
You say MBRWizard 3.0 notes states it supports vista. Please can you provide me with the link to the page where this is stated. I have spent all of yesterday and today trying to get this resolved and no luck. Thanks.
Regards
Mike

Go to the http://firesage.com/mbrwizard.php web page, select the Reference tab and click the + Repair item. Complete details will also be found in the documentation that is included in the download package. Note that a free version (without the GUI interface) is available under the CLI Freeware tab at that same web site.
Disclaimer: I should probably add that I have no interest whatever (other than as a user) in this particular MBR repair tool. It's just one that I found online and works okay for me.

@mikerj,
Once you are up and running again, make a Vista repair CD, the option is under system tools in the Vista menu, this will give you access to Vista tools such as fixboot/fixmbr etc.
The Acronis MBR tool works for W7 and Vista if they are set up using XP 512 byte offsets. i haven't tried it on a 2048 offset installation.
