True image Home 2010 does not see my hard drive

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I changed a new hard drive (Western Digital 320Gb, SATA) to my laptop (HP/Compaq nw8440)
I have upgraded to the latest True Image Home 2010 build 5055.

It cannot see the drive at all in Windows XP Pro (32-bit)!! I mean there seems to be huge problems while booting, but in my case I can't even make a full partition backup because the drive is not recognized! If I want to backup files/folders only then it works, but I don't need that feature.

A) is it possible to get this work?
B) if not, how can I get my money back?

Please clarify ... after you changed the drive and installed WinXP, were you able to install True Image 2010? If you were, did you make the bootable Rescue CD?

Hello Markku,

Thank you for using  Acronis True Image

Could you please check the disks for errors?

- Go to the Command Prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd)

- Enter the command: "chkdsk DISK: /r" (where DISK is the partition letter you need to check) for every partition that is visible in My Computer. Please note, that checking the C: drive may require you to reboot the machine.

If the issue still persists please install SnapAPI drivers I have sent you via PM, reboot computer and let us know the results.

Hi,

thanks for the help...no luck, chkdsk didn't find anything and SnapAPI did not change anything. Anyway, I made a bootable rescue cd and that works! It sees all 3 partitions and my external firewire drive that I'm using to save the image. So, the problem is kind of solved, BUT I still would like to know, why TIHome can't see my drive...?

I have 3 ideas what is causing the problem:

1. XP installation is new clean, but made with HP/Compaq restore dvd's, they might use some kind of not standard mbr or what ever.

2. I used Partition Magic to resize/create partitions after XP installation

3. TIHome is just not compatible with my new SATA drive
