Unable to write sector

Thread needs solution

I have a acronis TIH 2012 running windows 7 pro x64, Asus U36J notebook, the issue is that i have is whenever i try to clone HDD ( WD 500GB )to a SSD ( Vertex 3 SATA III 480GB ) and encounter "unable to write sector" , i have attach the SSD using a USB to SATA adapter, i have did a alighment but i still run into this error, any kind soul out there able to help ?

Thank you for opening the thread regarding this issue. I'd like to assist you with it.

It looks like the drive contains errors. I would advise you to do the following: 

  1. Attach the target drive to the USB
  2. Go to Start -> Run -> cmd
    This will get you to the Windows command line
  3. Type there
    chkdshk /f /r
    and hit enter
  4. You will be offered to check the drives after reboot.
    Hit "y" (yes) and then restart the machine
  5. Upon booting Windows will check the drives for consistency, and fix all errors if any.

After that try cloning again.

Please also note that the best way to clone the laptop drive is to attach the target drive directly, and the source one - via USB, otherwise your new drive may fail to boot. You can find more instructions in this KB article.
