TI2009 to TI2010 upgrade offer

Thread needs solution

I read earlier in the forums that there is a free upgrade offer to TI2010 if you purchased your an earlier TI product before 9/15/2009.

I went to the link given in the forum and found I had to submit a support ticket to (apparently) ask for the upgrade process/offer. I have still not heard anything back from my support ticket (00362980).

Is there another way to get the upgrade? Did I miss some link somewhere. This is a lot more confusing than I would think it needs to be. How long does it take to get a response to a support ticket?
Thanks,
John

There's no trick. You just have rattle the cage a lot sometimes until Acronis responds. The only promptness it's known for is promptly releasing a new version every year, redy or not ;)

This is a pretty sad comment about the company. I know they monitor this forum... I wonder why they have not responded to (what should be) this fairly simply issue?

If it's free then that's fair enough but if 2009 runs well then after downloading 2010 I would ask yourself if you really need it. I say this as there appears to be so many issues/bugs with 2010 that weren't there with 2009.

I am running W7 now and have 2009 which works well with this OS as it did with Vista. I have downloaded the trial version of 2010 but personally I'm loathe to install it. The old maxim comes to mind - If it ain't broke don't fix it.

lol No version of ATI since version 11 has not been seriously broken ;) Sometimes it's hard to decide if the fire is better than the frying pan.\

ATI 10 was the last reasonably solid version, even taking into account the post-release build updates for the later versions.

Indeed.. The last ATI I was happy with was ATI 9. I did upgrade to 11, for some reason I do not quite remember (Vista compatibility perhaps, in case I'd ever decide to upgrade to Vista), but threw it away in favor of a competitor's product instead. Something about it irked me so bad I didn't want to use it even though I had already bought it.

I've been keeping an eye on the versions since then. Until 2010 I saw no reason to consider going back to Acronis. If it had features I wanted, like try & decide, there was always something that made it useless (in the case of try & decide, did not work across reboots).

With 2010 it finally all came together for me. I rather like it. But it does seem to have the traditional Acronis bugs surrounding it. I wish there were more products offering the same feature set so we could get some real competition going.

What I'm reading in this thread goes directly against my personal experience with ATI 11, which I've been using for the last couple of years. In truth, I did not ever find any problem with it, after dozens of backups and maybe more than 10 complete restores... And I mean: NO ISSUE, whatsoever, on the performance that really counts: Ease of use and complete reliability!

The only issue I encountered with this version of ATI does bug me a little bit, but it has no bearing in the otherwise flawless overall performance of this great program.

I'm talking about an issue that arises when using ATI 11 under Windows Vista. The "Time remaining" in the "Total Progress" line does not work properly. It may show time remaining as, say, 10 minutes, when you may have more than one hour to go...

This is annoying to me and I would think it should be relatively easy for Acronis to have patched it long ago, but this never came across to be the case.

Other than that, from my own experience, I can only testify positively about ATI 11 quality and reliability.

Now, I was thinking of upgrading to ATI 2010 but after reading these posts, I start having having second thoughts. Should I really? Have I been just lucky?

Thanks for any opinions.

If you are not experiencing any issues, more power to you. It's been pretty clearly stated on the this and the old (Wilder hosted) forums that simple, very basic use could be essentially trouble free although not for all users. However, the serious probs with ATI 11 are well documented and Acronis has conceded many if not most of the issues (supposedly to be addressed in a future release). Search the forums and you will be able to find an abundance of reports on problems mcuh worse than experienced for prior versions, or try to start exploiting the purported features of ATI 11, ATI 12/1009 or ATI 13/2010 -- there is much disappointment in the software awaiting your efforts. Even folks like myself, once a staunch advocate of ATI (who recommended ATI to clients and friends), and still an avid supporter of ATI 10, became increasingly disappointed with the Acronis and it's later versions. It's not jsut the folks in this one thread that are disppointed; ATI 11 has earned its reputation for serious bugs.

Thank you, Scott, for your thoughts on the issue. If I end up changing my opinion about ATI (hope not!) it seems that we both may have followed a similar path... From elation to misery...

I would like to ask you one question, if you don't mind: You mention that serious problems with ATI 11 are well documented and Acronis has acknowledged them to the point of promising to address them "in a future release"!!!

But we are talking about ATI 11 and Acronis has rolled out already two new releases... And still no fixes? On the contrary, as far as I get it from some of these threads, ATI 2009 and ATI 2010 are still much worse than ATI 11? And, from what you say, ATI 11 was already quite worse than ATI10?

Did Acronis let itself down such a steep slope that it may be on an irreversible path to doom?

Should I jump ship?

I would appreciate it if you could share your opinions about this.

Thanks in advance.

If not continuously downhill, then at best plateaued in a slump.
You'll have to decide if the product offerings are right for you. They do offer free tirals, as do the other major brands of disk imaging/backup programs (like Paragon and Shadow Protect, etc.) Myself, I stopped giving Acronis my money When ATI 11 came out and have recommended against the use of ATI 11 and subsequent releases to those that have asked my option or that have hired my services.

Frode,

I have made my feelings known about ATI 11, which I've been using for a couple of years. I confess that I, personally, have NOT any reason for complaint about this (at least for me) very nice product.
But that issue regarding the "Time remaining" that I have described somewhere sort of bugs me a bit.
Do you think that, being a quite basic user, I would be well served acquiring the ATI 2010 version?
You know them both, so I figure you could be a good "adviser" for me on this issue...
Any thoughts, please?
Thanks.
