Failed to prepare data stream. Check whether the source and target partitions exist.

Thread needs solution

Since I downloaded and installed the latest update to Acronis True Image Home (build 6131), I cannot back up to online storage. According to the software, I am only using 158 GB of storage. I get the following error message:

Failed to prepare data stream. Check whether the source and target partitions exist.

Also, before the latest update, Acronis True Image would automatically run when my computer started up, so that the scheduled backups would run as scheduled. Now I have to manually start the software and manually run the backups, even though the software shows that they are scheduled. I haven't changed any settings.

I appreciate your help.

Dawn,

Move the TIB files you want to keep to another directory on the same disk (to avoid a long copy), delete your backup task from within ATI. ATI will complain it couldn't delete all the files (that you moved), insist. Create a new task.

Thanks, Pat. However, the problem is with the online backup - how do I move the TIB files online? I'll try just creating a new task - maybe that will solve the problem.

Hello,
I have the same pb like Dawn.
Since i have updated ATIH from 2011 to 2012, i can't backup online without this error "Failed to prepare data stream. Check whether the source and target partitions exist" error code "0x000B03E9+0x00040002".

Have you a solution for resolve this pb?

Thank you for your help.

I am incredibly frustrated. After my last post, I deleted the online backup from within ATI as Pat suggested and started a new online backup. It took 10 days, partly because I decided to tweak what was being backed up (my videos were taking forever to backup since they are huge files, so I removed them from the backup), and partly because I suspended the backup a few times to allow me to work on the computer. I also had to reboot my computer a few times during the process.

Anyway, TODAY (10 days after starting!!) I came to my computer to find the message, "The last backup has failed." When I viewed the log, the last 7 lines say, "Such item is already included." I went online to check my files. I am using 67.5GB of storage (since I removed my video files from the backup). I see that many of my recent files have been backed up, but not the most recent ones.

I started the backup again this morning and am hoping that it finishes soon, with a complete backup of my files.

I also notice that my local backup does not run as scheduled. Since the last update, I no longer get the little window that asks me to allow Acronis to make changes to my computer as I boot up (I have Windows 7). So it seems to me that Acronis is no longer running automatically. I didn't change any settings - this just started with the latest update.

I plan to pay for support to resolve these issues. I'll post whatever I find out.

OK, so I've paid my $9.95 for support and have had two phone calls with technicians. The first one told me to make an Acronis ISO boot disk, back up my disk/partitions, run chkdsk, and then contact Acronis with the results. Here's the email I got from the tech support guy, outlining the steps, which I followed carefully:

As discussed there are disk error. So, we need to run Check Disk Utility to repair and fix the disk error. If there is any hardware error then your computer may enter into no boot situation.

Before we run check disk utility, it is recommended to have the disk/partition backup. So please take a system backup using Acronis Bootable Media.

Follow the steps mentioned below to take the backup of the hard disk on your computer with Acronis bootable media.

1. Refer to the link mentioned below to download the ISO of Acronis True Image Home 2012 from link mentioned below:

<Link removed - I paid for it!!>

Note:Above mentioned link will remain valid for 14 days only.

2. After downloading the ISO, burn the ISO to the blank CD/DVD with the steps in the link mentioned below which will create the Acronis bootable media:

http://kb.acronis.com/content/1810

3. After creating the Acronis bootable media boot the computer with it after changing the first boot device priority to CD/DVD from BIOS of the computer. You can refer to the steps mentioned below to change the boot device priority:

-Turn ON your computer and start Tabbing F2 or DEL key until you get to the BIOS screen.

-Go to BOOT menu and select Primary Boot Device as CD-ROM/DVD-ROM.

-Press F10 key and select yes to save changes made.

4. Boot the computer with Acronis bootable media and create the backup of the hard disk on your computer by following the steps in the link mentioned below:

-Boot from Acronis Bootable Media and select Acronis True Image Home (Full version).

-On the Acronis True Image Home 2011 home screen, select Backup -> My Disks.

-Select the disk/partition which  you want to backup.

-Choose a target archive for the backup being configured and provide a name of the backup.

-Click on Backup options. Under Validation->Select Validate backup archive when it is created.

-Click on Finish. Carefully read the Summary of actions to be performed during backup and click Proceed.

Once you have created the backup and validated it then follow th dteps mentioned below to run Check Disk utility.

1.Please check the partition for errors:

Go to the Command Prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd); Enter the command:

chkdsk DISK: /r

where DISK is the partition letter you need to check. Please note, that checking the C: drive may require you to reboot the machine.

Please perform the aforementioned steps according to your convenience and let us know the results.

Additionally, feel free to contact us if you need further assistance in this matter or if you have any other query and we will be glad to help. I will leave the case open until it is resolved to your satisfaction and will look forward to your response.

I sent my chkdsk results to him but didn't hear back, so I called again the next day. I spoke to a different tech support guy, who took control of my computer for about an hour, and did the following:

This is a follow up e-mail of phone support. You contacted us to get assistance with the online backup issue and scheduler issue that you are facing while using Acronis True Image Home 2012.

Therefore, I remotely accessed your computer and then tried to assist you. I repaired the installation of Acronis True Image Home 2012 on your computer. Also I updated Acronis Scheduler on your computer. Thereafter, I checked that the port should not be blocked for online backup and also deleted and then downloaded Client.CRT file on your computer.

As of now online backup is progressing. So I request you to let it happen and let us know the result of the task done.

As of now your case is still open. Should you have any issue, please do let us know.

I let the backup run and got another error message - I've attached a screenshot.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
