Ideas to fix USB Thumb Drive Issue
The snapapi_virtualdisk.zip solution just provided to me does not work. Infact I cannot even install the SnapAPI drivers. It occured to me that the Acronis drivers most likely bypass the CD rom drive which would make sense. It also occured to me that bypassing other types of removeable storage would also make sense as well.
As a programmer, it sems if they just added a return statement to their drivers or just forward the call to the Windows driver as the case may be, the issue would go away. I do not pretent to know how they implemented their drivers and my assumptions could be wrong but here is my idea to fix the problem.
Option 1: Allow users to specify which drivers to bypass or to disable altogether
Option 2: If the drive is removeable, then ignore it.
I don't want to over simplify the problem but somewhere between the driver not doing anything and trashing access to the USB drivers, there should be a simple workaround short of not installing ATIH 2012 at all.

This type of problem can also be caused by having another imaging program installed. The snapshot drivers may not work well together. There have also been past snapapi drivers that have knocked out USB devices.

Do we know if Acronis is addressing this issue? And more generally, do we know which bugs are going to be fixed in the next patch?

Tech support suggested that the reason I could not install the latest snapapi_virtualdisk.zip drivers was that my system had an older version of them. I could not find them anywhere on my hard disk so I uninstalled ATIH2012 and tried to install the drivers first but that did not work either. I noticed that there were references to them in the Windows registry but the folders they were supposed to be in did not exist.

Acronis generally does not announce release dataes for builds or versions before release nor specify what fixes or changes will be coming in the next build. However, a person form Acronis does ocassionaly state on the forum in a thread re a particular problem that a fix is being worked on and will be inlcuded in an upcoming release.
