unable to see documents and settings

Thread needs solution

With previous versions of Acronis I've always been able to look at and copy data from the backup.

With 2012 when I look in documents and settings (even on backups taken with previous versions) I get an empty folder..!

Have I got some of my settings wrong..?

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks Al

You should find them under the true path where stored.

If Win 7 or Vista, you may find them under c:\users\username\My documents

in XP, mine are in the same place as always which is d:\mydocuments

You may have to look around.

On Windows Vista and 7 also a "Documents and Settings" is present on the C: drive, however this is just a symbolic link to C:\Users. This is for backwards compatibility with old XP programs using a hard coded "Documents and Settings" name instead of using environment settings.

You cannot browse the link C:\Documents and Settings but you can skip over it. For example you can see the public profile via C:\Documents and Settings\Public which in fact shows you C:\Users\Public. Also be aware Windows does funny things with the names. For example I have a Dutch Windows version, when I type C:\Users\Public then explorer shows me the breadcrumb path C:>Gebruikers>Openbaar and also when I look at C: I see a folder Gebruikers which is in reality the Users folder. That's why a lot of technical people prefer native English Windows versions, no funny tricks.

Note: also in your profile there are some of those links for backward compatibility like "Application Data" and "Local Settings". When hiding system files and folders you will not see them, but they are there and may become visible when browsing a backup.

I have ATI 2009 and I just moved from Vista 32 to Win 7 64 and have not set up my Acronis backup jobs yet. It should be easy, but it would be nice if I could just copy the application data files from Vista for Acronis.
Is this a good idea? I suppose they are all dll files which would not be of any value to copy.
In my Vista backup image file I looked under Users > Doug > I can not find an Application data folder.
