Acronis 2012 keeps Ironkey Secure USB flash drive from mounting
I have an Ironkey secure 8GB USB flash drive. Upon insertion, you see one small disk drive. On this drive is a program which accepts a password and then mounts the much larger 8GB "secure" drive.
My system runs Windows XP Pro SP3. I have been running the past couple of years with Acronis True Image Home 2010 and 2011 with no problems using the Ironkey drive. However, when I upgraded to Acronis 2012, I can no longer mount the 8GB secure Ironkey drive. I see the smaller drive, but when I run the password program, it fails with a message suggesting I try reformatting the drive. Attempting the format fails. I also have a regular 8GB flash drive which I can access just fine, but when I try to format it, the format fails. Both the Ironkey and regular USB drives can be accessed and formatted OK when I boot up in Windows Safe mode. Uninstalling Acronis 2012 allows the drives to work just fine again.
Over at the Ironkey forum, at least one other person has reported the same problem.

On reading all the threads on this issue I can find, it appears the people affected are running Win 7. This is an additional issue affecting Windows XP. How related the two are, I don't know.

Milton,
Did you try to disable the non-stop backup service? Does this tweak improve the situation?

I encountered the same problem today and just wanted to comment so that Acronis (hopefully they read these) knows this is not an isolated issue. I'm also running XP Pro SP3 on two computers and they both rejected two different functional IronKey flash drives in the way you described. Having just downloaded Acronis, I have not activated non-stop backup (no backups run yet) so the previous suggested fix is not going to address the issue unless I'm missing something. FYI, I just updated the IronKey software (able to boot it on a 3rd, "non-Acronis" computer) and the Ironkey update did nothing to help with this problem. Can't get through on chat to an Acronis rep, window said "2 minute" wait and it has been 20. It would be great to find a fix so I don't have to find a new backup software program.
