TI2012 conflict with Patriot 64gb USB stick

Thread needs solution

Patriot Xporter Magnum 64gb stick works perfectly in W7 64bit system.

Purchased and installed TI2012. Loads fine.

Insert the stick, then TI2012 will not load, ultimately giving a "not responding" error.

Remove stick and TI loads ok.

Without TI2012 running the stick is now not recognised as Patriot by W7 when inserted.

Unistalled TI2012 and stick is immediately correctly recognised by W7.

So, it appears I can have one or the other but not both.

However, TI2012 and a 16gb Datatraveller stick work quite happily together.

I have another pc, running W7 64bit and TI2011, which works fine with the 64gb Patriot stick.

My conclusion - 2012 is incompatible with the Patriot 64gb Magnum on a W7 64bit setup. Driver clash??

Has anyone else seen this or other usb drive problems?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

At present I have TI2012 installed & am foregoing the use of the Patriot drive, in the hope that Acronis will release an update that might address the problem. However I have no confidence in the programme & meantime I am using Dell's Datasafe Local backup and storing it's images on DVD.

Mike.

It is possible that the new virtual disk driver used by 2012 is having a problem either with the size of the USB stick or in the way the USB stick reports itself to the Windows Disk Manager.

There could be a number of reasons why the stick isn't being recognised, one useful experiment (and I'm just musing here in technician mode), would be to see if either 2011 on the PC with the problem sees the stick or 2012 on the 2011 PC also has the problem.

Is the stick seen when using the recovery CD by both a 2011 one and a 2012 one?

Thanks for the suggestions Colin.
My problem is academic now, in that I have uninstalled TI2012 and am using an alternative programme (P*****n Backup & Restore 2011 (Free Edition)) which has no problem with the stick, and seems to do everything I need with ease.

Mike.

I had a similar experience.
Using Windows 7 - 64 bit.

After installing ATIH 2012 I could not get Nonstop Backup to work properly. So thinking that I had done something incorrect during the install -
I uninstalled ATIH 2012,
and used the ATIH 2012 cleanup tool
and then reinstalled.
After this I could not access any USB flash drives, in my case Samsung 4 GB models. The drives were accessible on another computer, so not a drive problem. Other USB attached devices worked, (i.e. printer and Wacom Pad), but no flash drives.

I was able to use a previous Windows System Restore point from the initial install and am once again able to access my flash drives.
I remain uneasy about the stability of the system and ATIH 2012 going forward.

Between this problem and Nonstop Backup not working, I am disappointed in ATIH 2012.

 Helloall,

Thank you for your reports.

Ed,

I am sending a file to you via Private messages, please install it and see if the issue remains.

Thank you.

Oleg

Thank you for your response.

Please refer to my original posting. Since using a Windows system restore point I have been able to use my USB drives.

As requested I downloaded and installed the VirtualDiskSetup.msi file as requested.

After the install I can still access my USB drives. So there does not appear to be any additional damage to my system. However I can not attest to whether the fix did any good either.

Should this problem be listed under the Known Issues forum topic?

Due to the other problems with ATIH 2012 I remain unsure of it.

 Hello Ed,

Thank you for your response.

Actually, I missed the point that you were able to use your USB drives. The VirtualDiskSetup.msi file installation wasn't necessary in that case.

Please see the post with the similar issues:

Thank you.

Thank you for the pointer to the message string. As noted there, I am not sure that ATIH 2012 Cleanup Utility is working properly either. I am not knowledgeable enough to say what is wrong with it, but I don't think that it cleaned my system to a state before I installed ATIH 2012. That is not listed as a known issue either.

Let me know when you come out with a maintenance release.

Thank you
Ed

In another series I posted the below as my USB sticks were bloacked by the 2012 drivers which needs sorting out as there is no isue with 2011
As with others I had USB devices needing to be reformatted but windows unable to actually access them to do so. My ones were 4 Integral 4 Gb ones brought to enable updating anti-virus boot time programs and running True Image Home from boot as well.
Integral tested them and said no problem and washed there hands of the issue. 4 Kingston DataTravelers I then bought worked OK. Further devices, from Verbatim, HP and Freecom , worked with no problem though a Disgo takes ages to be recognised and work (near instantly on the PC with 2011).
This is odd as using USBDeview and the list of manufactures codes you can get through the program the Integral devices were made by made by Kingston as well. So there is clearly some difference that True Image is unable to cope with. I have now tried the Initial devices on a PC with True Image 2011 and no problem at all, they load first and every timer inserted.
As I have now paid for replacement devices and given the problems some have been having in successfully uninstalling 2012 I will keep in on but after switching back from another backup program that took endless fiddling with to get it to work I am not very pleased with any of this.

I have stopped the services mentioned here and after a reboot the USB devices worked no problem. Restarted, rebooted and they stop working again.

I have same problem with Patriot Rage XT 64GB. However my Lexar 128GB Echo MX has no problem.
