TIH 2012's user interface is not good.

I agree with you on this one, it might take time to get used to the Acronis True Image Home 2012 after the 2010 version. I have just forwarded your comment to the Development team, but it would be a lot easier for us to look into the opportunity of improving the GUI if you could be a little more specific. It would be a step in the right direction to separate tasks from backups when ATIH scans a system for existing backups they all get mixed up (tasks & backups) in one mess of a list this makes using ATIH VERY difficult.

It would also be helpful to include useful information like the source data for a backup.

The interface has many other annoying idiosyncrasies many of which have been reported during beta's and ignored by Acronis.

Acronis clings to the belief that the ati2011 and ati2012 interface is somehow easier for folks to understand but that it can be hard to understand for expert users and folks used to prior ati versions. I think this is missing an important fact about the ati2011/2012 interface, namely, that it is not merely unintutive but downright counterintuitive. This is exacerbated by some of the bugs -- even when you think you understand how it works, it might surporise you, but only because oa bug is making it perform yet more oddly. I'm sure there are some newbies that like it (having nothing to compare it to) but a person unfamilar with a mousetrap might think a Rube Goldberg mousetrap was nice. Based on the users I've dealt with as clients or that are current or former customers of Acronis, all of this is tolerable only for any program that works solidly, consistently and reliably.

If we require more, features are necessarily more complicated. The more complicated functions become, the more complicated operations become. If you try to confine complex functions in simple operations, many functions inevitably make their way to automatization. As a result, the diversity of the users' request would be sacrificed. Also the simplicity of appearance could impede usability or ease of use in some cases.
I think the important thing on user interfaces is that all the complex and diverse functions are classified closely and the entrances to them are arranged distinctly and explicitly.

It took time for me just to find the place to disable the automatic update of TIH 2012. Though a trifle, it is a fact that time was spent wastefully.

Nevertheless humankind is a creature that has advanced adaptability. We will get accustomed to any interfaces sooner or later, however odd they may be.

what i realy miss in 2012 is visual represantion of my drives.

By the way i am using the german edition and i am getting a little bit confused about the backup conversation tool.
Like the description is can be used to convert Windows backups (wich is WIM) into Acronis and reverse.
I'll tried that but it does just convert to Microsoft Virtual PC drive( wich is VHD).

The drives are visually represented as disks in disk mode or as partitions in "multiple partition" mode.
Multiple partition mode is in figures 3 and disk mode in figure 5 in this link.

yeh your right it is possible to sea visual presenting on disk drives but this is quit unusel.

I dont need a visual to sea how much disk space is left.
I need a visuel componentswich determines partitions as a part of a drive and then i look for disk space.

Therefore there are 3 big problems.
1. disk mode is not disk mode cause it only shows volumes and thats not the same. (be aware on it.)
2. partion mode does not exist it is volume mode and thats not the same as partitions ( be aware on it)
3. the biggest whats about system partition like dell ones, if you took acronis to backup them you will definitly loose them forever. (be aware Windows-Mode backup are ony better file backups.)

Of course you can take a look at such a visual component but not with acronis ...
take a look at the windows disk drive tools.

I too prefer the display of disks/partitions as it was in 2010 and prior versions. In my mind, Acronis took a step backwards in that what was displayed in one screen before now requires 3 screens to display. The 3 modes are deceiving. Once you click on disk mode, the display does not say your are in disk mode. Several times, we users have asked for this to changed but so far we only have the current version as our choice.

The TrueImage disk mode is not bad as it does display the partition size but now used or free space. Checking the disk will get you all partitions for that disk and you can check multiple disks if that happens to be a preference.

I atteched you my screen as you can sea acronis just blends out unsupported volumes and partitions.
If i would trust acronis at this point and i would backup the listed usb drive i would loose at least one partition.

Perhaps You would do well to click 'Zu Laufwerk-Modus wechseln'.

Why did one screen need subdividing into multiple?
Because that would be easy for us users, especially beginners, to use? Or because Acronis developers considered that slate/tablet PCs which had smaller displays would become widespread in the near future and that it would be useful and necessary for them and took a step toward that?
A minority who uses full/mid tower PCs or DIY PCs with 24-inch or wider monitors might be getting fewer and fewer, and become extinct eventually. I will have to be a zombie making DIY PCs then. But maybe a dinosaur.

Sorry, I didn't understand enough what you couldn't do.

In 'Laufwerk-Modus' (Drive Mode), just press Alt - Print Screen (Prt Scr) as you position the mouse pointer over the disk.

I wonder if that is right?

If you can tell where to find such a button 'Laufwerks-Modus' ..

by the way if like try german ( Ich werd damit schon klar kommen).

I got ony one button 'drive and volume backup' ('Laufwerks und Volume backups')

But there are no drives..

I you take a look at the attached file above you will see my sceenshot.

In special look for the details with the usb drive.
In fact there are two partions (465GB and 700MB) but acronis blends out the second.

I can see 'Zu Laufwerk-Modus wechseln' in your attached figure. So you would be able to click that.

Besides 'Nicht zugeordnet' in the USB drive means unallocated space. It is not yet a partition. That's why you can see only one partition in the USB.

By the way, I'm afraid I've never used 'Deutsch' for some twenty years.
