Newer bootable media can read older backups.

Older bootable media CANNOT read backups created by newer version. While it may happen if the versions are close together, Acronis does not promise this capability.

Why do you make the distinction of 'bootable media' ?

How is that different from the installed application - which is what I am asking about.

Thanks

No distinction--just the way I phrased it. I do all my restores from the Bootable media CD so that is my normal restore method. Most all my restores are partition or disk restores so it is very very rare for me to make a restore from within Window.

I did not mean to imply there is a difference between their capability. The newer version will restore older backups but the older version will not restore backups made by the newer versions.

Yes

No, in general. It turns out I was able to restore a 2012 image with the 2011 recovery CD, but this is NOT the rule.
