[OUTDATED] Problem with Acronis TIH 2012 - Upgrade

I had the same problem with the version 2012. I can not even restore to previous config. Worse even, my older version 2010 does not recongnize the hard drives any more. It is shameful that Acronis puts out a "update version" that no only does not work, but changes your configuration. Also the reviews are not on top of these problems. I got the new version based on the "good" reviews.

What was your exact problem and which OS are you using?
You might need to use the 2012 cleanup utility which can be found here to remove some registry entries that might be preventing an older version to install.

As Colin pints out, you probably need to scrub before reinstalling.
RE reviews: Commercial reviews are often based more on press releases than actually running a product through its paces. I generally ignore commerical reivews unless it's clear that the reviewer actually explored and tested the product with some thoroughness. User reviews, if you can sort out the reasoned commentors from the folks that love blindly and those that are unreasonably rancorous are, imo, more helpful. E.g. on amazon the 1s and 5s I usually dismiss and read the others for info on how a product performed.

I had the exact same problem. The browser seems to be broken with SMB shares. It connects with the correct credentials but nothing shows up in the file browser. Reverted to TI2011 and it worked again. Reinstalled TI2012 (at the insistence of Acronis support) and it was broken again. Reverted to TI2011 again (after waiting a month for a fix) and it worked again. After asking for a refund and playing email tag with support for over a month, I finally received it. If there is a fix, then why doesn't Acronis post it somewhere. Support did nothing but ask to take remote control of my system, which I won't let happen.

I have been an Acronis customer for over a decade, and have known their products are buggy, but find that nothing else on the market is any better. It seems that software vendors have been able to get away with buggy programs for so many years, that most everyone expects more of the same. Take Microsoft, for example,.... need I say more?
Anyway, I have been running ATI 2011 for about a year and recently had to uninstall it because it constantly crashes the NONSTOP backup feature. It ran fine for a couple of months, but began acting up about the time ATI2012 came out. I will not buy the upgrade this time. I have completely given up on Acronis. I have made a decision to not waste my time anymore with software that repeatedly acts up... therefore Acronis has lost another customer. I am keeping my money in my pocket.... and if enough customers will join with me and vote with their wallets, Acronis will have no choice but to spend more effort to provide a stable product.
In the meantime, Microsoft backup will work well enough and it was expensed off with the one-time purchase. At least I don't have to fork over an annual fee to get the latest bugs fixed like Acronis does. That wouldn't be so bad, except that Acronis's annual "fix" introduces more problems than it solves.

I tried to install ATIH 2012 today and it crashes once loaded, cannot contact support, all options are grayed out, no phone number shown, my new product does not show up so going to dispute the charge and look for some other application.
Windows 7 Pro 32bit

Have you registered your serial number via your Acronis account? I assume your comment about 'all options greyed out' refers to the Acronis website?
As for TIH itself, do you get any error messages what happens exactly?
Have you tried running the installer again and initiating a repair install?
What build number are you installing?

I first tried ATIH 2010 and it would not run so thought that it was a version issue with the app. Then purchased and installed ATIH 2012 and same thing happens. I get a notification from Win 7 that the app will not run and it is shut down.
I did not register the serial number, just bought the upgrade and installed it. Have tried to get in touch with Acronis but unable to chat, no known email address etc.
Thought that my AV might have been causing a problem (AVAST 7) so uninstalled it - no change.
Win7 Pro 32bit.

Hello Bobby,
I was going to suggest that you capture an Acronis Info Report which can be downloaded and run outside of the application in windows. I am sure however, that support has done this.

To get support for the paid version you need to register your serial number to your account, you will then find all the boxes will become live.
Apart from the Acronis report suggested by Shadowsport have you tried opening TIH as Administrator - right click on the TIH icon and select 'run as..' . As you have got the same result with both 2010 and 2012 that would point towards a problem with either Windows or perhaps some hardware you have installed.
Is your video card driver upto date?
Do you have a card reader, scanner or USB hub attached?
What other known background programs do you have running, InCD or similar perhaps?
