Acronis Backup 11.5 & NVMe SSDs

Thread needs solution

I just tested NVMe (M.2 PCIex4) again this time on a Supermicro X10SRM-F socket 2011 motherboard.  Using an Acronis 2016 boot USB stick (build 6571) after selecting Acronis True Image on the menu I got a blank screen and system lockup before getting into Acronis.  Every modern motherboard we use in our business Z170, Q170, C612 (socket 2011 XEON E5-26XX v4 family) based motherboard do not work with either Acronis 2015 or 2016.  My Acronis 2016 is the latest version.  I was going to try another attempt at using Acronis with NVMe again but could not get that far.   Have others had this same problem on getting a blank screen after selecting Acronis True Image?  Post replies or PM.

Thanks

Paul

Non-Volatile Memory Express, also known as NVMe or NVM Express, is a specification that allows a solid-state drive (SSD) to make effective use of a high-speed Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe) bus in a computer.

NVMe is a technology that allows Solid State Drives (SSDs) with increased performance, efficiency and compatibility across a wide range of systems.

The main benefits of NVMe PCIe SSDs are reduction of drive latency, increased data transfer speed and lower power consumption, in comparison to older controller design SSDs, through the streamlining of the data transfer process.

NVM Express (NVMe) is a new SSD design from the ground up that is more efficient in the data management processes than previous SSD designs.
NVM Express devices exist both in form of standard-sized PCI Express expansion cards that can be mounted in PCIe expansion slots on a PC motherboard and also for use in the new M.2 specification for internal card mounting (Mostly laptop, 2in1 and tablet configurations).

Like other new technologies, older operating systems do not have native driver support for this technology requires driver installation for these operating systems to recognize any NVMe storage device during the operating system installation.

In response to Paul Imsand's comment, I too have had problems with Acronis 2015 and 2016, exactly as you described.  I usually try 2016, and if that freezes up, I go back to 2014.  That usually works.  I have had this problem with multiple mother boards, but, interestingly, not with my Supermicro X10SL7-F.  I keep (foolishly) buying new versions, assuming this will be fixed.

Acronis:  Please comment on this;  I'm sure several of your customers would appreciate it.

Hello Charles,

Thank you for your posting! The support of the NVMe drives has been implemented starting with the Update 2 of Acronis True Image 2016. Here you'll find some clues on why there could be still issues with detection of NVMe on specific configurations. If the issue persists, please start a new discussion in Acronis True Image 2016 forum section, as this forum section is devoted to the corporate product family.

Thank you,
