Acronis Backup 11.5 for Workstations

Thread needs solution

I made an image of a drive, re-installed Windows, used Acronis on secondary computer with target hard drive attached to PC via USB adapter. I restored the files via Acronis. However I've never had a successful restore yet. Every time I go back and turn the other PC on and it does not show the files. I start doing a chkdsk and sure enough there's thousands of corrupted files that it is fixing. This is happening on multiple images back to their PCs so I know it's not just a one off PC thing. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

 Hello Rayan,

Thank you for posting, I'll be happy to assist you with this issue.

Let me repeat your steps so that I miss nothing important:

  1. You create an image backup (not file backup) of PC1 to some location. Backup is successful and valid. Operations are performed in Windows.
  2. You take the created backup from the specified location to restore to an external HDD attached to PC2 via USB. Operations are performed in Windows.
  3. You restore files from this image backup (not the whole image/volumes/disks). So you already have a file system and other files on the external drive.
  4. After restore is completed successfully, you attach the HDD internally (?) to PC1 and after booting to the OS you cannot see the restored files.

Please confirm that I have interpreted everything correctly, otherwise provide a more detailed description of your steps.

If all is correct, then please make sure you are using the latest software version (build 38573) on both PCs (remember that we do not support forward compatibility, e.g. older version may restore backups of newer version incorrectly), that the backups are valid and that during file restore you provide the file security settings that will allow the PC1 user to read them. Make sure that the external HDD's file system is not corrupt.

Provide information about the external HDD content and file system. Try making a backup of a single file and restoring it. Does the same issue occur when you restore files using PC1?

Looking forward to getting more information from you in order to get this issue resolved.

Thank you,
