Is Acronis Backup Avanced 11.7 agent console connection working with TLS protocol ?

Thread needs solution

Hi everybody,

I tried first with the Acronis support but cannot bring me an answer.

I can only find in the documentation of acronis the use of the SSL protocole to secure the connection between console and agent.

After that I can see in the security configuration that Acronis support information protection with AES encryption (on 256 bit).

It seems weird because SSL v3 cannot support encryption with AES.

So wich protocol is used to secure information between console and agent and if it is TLS wich version is used ?

And give me the cipher used to encrypt the information.

Thank you to help me with that problem ;D

Hello Maverick,

We use SSL to secure the connection. The "information protection with AES encryption" statement applies mor to encryption of the actual data, and less about the connection.

I don't know the cipher used off-hand and sent a request to development with this query. Do you need this information for compliance purposes?

Thank you!

Hello Igor,

Many thank for this information. In fact, cipher suite indicate the algorithm encryption used (here AES) with the size of the encryption key and hash algorithm with the length of the hash algorithm.

Here is all the cipher suites can be uses with SSL or TLS protocols : http://www.thesprawl.org/research/tls-and-ssl-cipher-suites/

As acronis using AES protocol, it use TLS protol to secure the information. If you give me the cipher suite used, I can know after that the version of TLS used (1.0, 1.1 or 1.2) and the differents alorithms.

Hello Maverick,

The cipher suite used by default is:

DHE-RSA-AES128-SHA

Hi Igor,

Many thanks for this information. I'll help me a lot.

As you are saying "by default" you mean you can modify it ?

Best regards,

MERCK Maverick

Hi Maverick,

It can be changed using GPO as described in 39153: Acronis Backup Advanced 11.7/11.5: How to Disable SSL Encryption on Acronis Storage Node.

Possible values are AES128 and AES256, unsure if it is supported by Acronis Backup 11.7.

Hi Raphael,

I already saw this information. The cipher suite I have indicate to my client is the follow : TLS_DHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA

I can supose the version 1.2 of TLS is used by Acronis Backup or Advanced Backup.

Best regards,

MERCK Maverick
