Advice needed on Clean Up Archive
We have 11.5 setup with a backup job that creates a full backup on Friday Night (2.2 TB avg) and then on Mon, Tue, Wed, and Thu we run a differential backup 30GB avg).
I want to keep 5 total full backups at any given time. After a new full backup runs, I have manually deleted the previous week's differentials. Additionally when I have 5 full backups and 4 differentials there is no longer enough room in my vault to run a 6th full backup. So on a Friday afternoon before my Full backup runs my vault looks like this:
Backup #9 Differential
Backup #8 Differential
Backup #7 Differential
Backup #6 Differential
Backup #5 Full
Backup #4 Full
Backup #3 Full
Backup #2 Full
Backup #1 Full
After turning "Clean up Archive" on and going to the Retention Rules - I get stuck on how to get this set properly.
My ideal scenario is that, this is 1) fully automated and 2) when the Full backup starts on Friday, the oldest FULL backup is deleted (and any associated differentials).
The way I see my choices, the best option is to base the cleanup on total number of backups in the archive. The problem with that is the differentials and fulls each count as a 'backup' and thus all of my full backups #1-5 would be pushed out BEFORE my differentials jobs. If I choose retain the backup until all dependent backups become subject to deletion - I'll run out of space to backup. If I choose the other choice "consolidate the backups", I still end up in a situation where my full backups get deleted before the differentials.
Am I missing something? How to I get this setup to keep my fulls, ditch my diffs after a new full has run and yet maintain always having 5 backups. (before full backup 6 starts - it would have deleted the old full backup.) What I think I want is the ability to control deleting differentials and Fulls separately? any advice? Is this making sense? (I probably will need to explain it better, its still confusing me.) All advice is welcome. I'm still n00b with Acronis so if I have missed some really obvious interface or feature/option, my apologies!!
