backing up Hyper-V VMs

Thread needs solution

Fairly new to Acronis, want to make sure I'm doing things as I should.

I have the Hyper-V edition installed on the hypervisor which hosts 2 VMs. When selecting items to backup I see that I can either choose disks or VMs - but not both. Since I'd like to backup the hypervisor as well I'm choosing disks and it seems that in the case that I need to restore a VM I can just restore the VHDX file.

Is that correct? Is this the proper way or is there a more effective way to backup both the host and VMs in one job?

Thanks!

You can backup VMs by backing up their VHD files, but it has some disadvantages. When machines are backed up as VMs, Backup&Recovery understands the structure of filesystem on their disks and they are backed up just like physical disks - unused sectors are not included in backup, backup can be restored to a physical machine (with Universal Restore). When backing up as VHD files, it doesn't work this way. You can back up the host only in other backup plan, adding VM storage folder to exclusions.
