Extracting Linux partition/drive files

Thread needs solution

A friend who had a dual-boot Windows 7 & Linux system asked if I could extract linux files from his hard drives (system & second linux hard drive).  His PC is toast.

Is there a way for Acronis Backup Advanced 11.5 on my Windows 7 system to extract the files from his linux partitions/drives if I connect his hard drives with a USB docking station?

Hello B. Hata,

Thank you for posting! Could you provide us with the following information:

  • file system on the Linux partition
  • was the Agent installed onto the Linux or Windows system?
  • exect build version
  • backup plan settings

Thank you,

Hi Ekaterina...

Sorry if I wasn't clear... The hard drives do not contain Acronis TIB backup files, but are the system and mounted hard drives.  So in theory I could connect his system drive with my USB docking station and view his Windows partitions and back it up with my Acronis 11.5 build 38573.

I was wondering if I could backup the Linux partitions of those hard drives with my computer and then extract individual linux files from those Acronis TIB files.

I'm not sure if the file systems are EXT3 or EXT4.  The system has been in use about 8 years.

Hello,

This should be possible as Acronis Backup fully supports the EXT family of file systems without any limitations (http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/AcronisBackup_11.5/#…)
