How to restore without storage node
I'm trying to restore the machine that has the storage node on it.
This means that no storage node is available for the restore. The archives do exist in the vault, but it's a managed vault and requires a storage node to retrieve the backups.
So I'm caught in a catch-22: to restore the machine, I must have the storage node available. And to have the storage node, I must restore the machine.
- Can I install a storage node on another machine and use it to manage an existing managed vault?
- Is there any other way to get to the archives?
- In the future, how can I back up the machine that has the storage node?
(I backing up from a workgroup LAN, without a domain)

Install a storage node on another machine, attach the vault(s) to it. You can left it not added to Management Server - for recovery specify bsp:///VaultName in vault selection dialog.
In the future, how can I back up the machine that has the storage node?
Back it up to an unmanaged vault?

Hi,
I have a question relating to this.
We are also backing up a machine with ASN to it's own managed vault (which is a tape vault). If the machine failed, we would not be able to restore the backup because we would not have ASN available (the "catch 22" problem).
The issue is that I can not detach and re-attach the managed vault to another ASN because it is a tape vault (is this correct?). In this case, how can I access the backup on the tape vault? Do I need to know the previous Storage Node ID of the machine that failed (see solution 1 of https://kb.acronis.com/content/43144)?
Thank you,

Hello Sam,
Thank you for your posting! You can install ASN, then create a new tape-based vault and rescan the contents of your tapes to this new vault. Thus all backups will be available.
