Restore with USB key can't resize hard disk

Thread needs solution

Hi Everyone,
I just download a bootable image build 43956 and boot from it.

I have an images in a usb key, I try to restore it as is, everything work fine
I am using the same key, I want to resize the hard disk, so that I can reserve some space to create a D drive after restore. it give me error code 00950001 when I try to resize it.

I put the image from my usb key to a network drive and resize as above, everything work fine

Do you know why it dowsn't work with usb key?

Thanks
Roger

Hi Roger,

Thank you for your posting! Could you please provide us with step-by-step screenshots of your actions while resizing a partition and the full text of error message.

Thank you,

Hi Ekaterina Surkova,
I am using a boot media to restore an image, therefore unable to create screenshots.
below is the steps to generate the error

1) using the boot media DVD and backup the hard disk into a image on the network server
2) Get a new hard disk
3) Copy than Image to a usb key
4) Boot the DVD
5) choose the restore from the startup menu
6) Choose the Files from the USB key
7) Once the images files load, you see the below parts has 2 Partition, one is reserve (Windows 7 reserve partition), the other is the C "Drive"
8) go to the Properties on the second partition, Now you will see a screen for resize or a spin button for resize.
9) Reduce the Drive size by around 2 GB . and press OK button
10) OK to start the restore
11)you will see an error 0X00950001 on the screen
12) I try the latest build 43958 and also build 38774, give the same error

Thanks a lot
Roger

Hi Roger,

Thank you for additional details! In the current build it's not possible to restore backups with resizing, if they were created in the mode Removable media. According to your description it's the same issue. Please create a new backup using the mode Fixed Drive and restore it.

Thank you,
