Server backup and Consolidation?

Thread needs solution

Hi All,

My company is seriously looking at Acronis Backup Advanced for Windows Server for our Windows 2012 R2 machines.

I was wondering if someone could help me answer a question about consolidation (onsite and offsite)? Is this offered ? If so, is it an option (that costs extra)?

Thanks!

Hi Peter, could you please clarify what do you mean by consolidation here?

Hi Andrew,

I'm assuming, upon a cursory investigation, that Acronis makes some sort of incremental backup files?

If so, how are these files consolidated onsite and offsite, and is there an additional cost involved ?

Thanks,
PeteG

OK, Peter, I've got your question.

Actually, when Acronis Backup creates incremental and/or differential backups, they are handled then by different retention rules.
In different backup schemes the correspondingly different retention rules are used.

For example, when you save backups simple to folders and use any backup scheme than the Custom one, the retention rules will just delete backups when they become obsolete.
However, when the incremental backup becomes a subject to deletion, it may still remain if some other backups depend on it. It will stay untouched until all dependencies become obsolete as well.

The custom backup scheme allows you to choose what to do with the obsolete incremental backups - a) proceed with the same "waiting for dependencies" behavior as described above, or b) consolidate the obsolete backup with the next one, so the newly created incremental point will contain changes of both.

As for the Cloud Backup the backups there are consolidated as well. No additional price is charged by Acronis.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your response. I'll find a reseller now.

Thanks!
