Tape is not recognized by Acronis and have to Inventory every time

Thread needs solution

I switched from a previous backup solution and now using
Acronis Backup and Recovery 11.5. The issue is with the previous backup solution, there was a job that ran when a new tape was inserted . With Acronis, I have to manually open Acronis, go to Tape Management, click on Acronis, then click Inventory and scans the barcode and that tape is now ready for a backup.

This is the issue, since I have to log into the server every day and go through this process. When a tape is inserted in the DAT320 tape drive, Acronis does not recognize a tape is in the drive.

Please let me know if there is a solution. I called HP for the DAT320 and they said to mention to Acronis this is a stand alone tape drive.

Thanks!

Hello Michelle,

Every software has to run inventory of tape drives to recognize tape cassette changes in the drive, this is not an Acronis Software limitation.

Each time you insert a NEW tape in the drive, you have to run inventory, place the tape in the necessary pool and give it a name (optional).

After that every time you replicate the tape with the one already used once by Acronis, when you start a backup, Acronis will automatically run the inventory, will recognize the old tape and will backup to it.

It is impossible to set up backups to run when the tape is inserted to the drive by software options. It is possible to run backups manually, on schedule or on system events. If you manage to specify the system event in windows event log that is produced when the tape is inserted, then you will also be able to run backups “upon the tape is inserted”.

Thank you.
