using Acronis 11.5 to restore tib taken with acronis 10 to VHD

Thread needs solution

I currently have been using acronis 10 to backup an older NT4.0 server. Yep I know NT4 is very old. I know the TIB is good because I have used it to restore the server to same equipment. It worked great and saved me a huge headache.

Now I would like to move this TIB image of the NT4.0 server to a virtual machine so I can at least get it off of the old equipment.

I downloaded a trial of Acronis Backup 11.5 and attempted to do this.
I was able to restore it to a VHD file and the server came up without issue.
However after logging into the server a few minutes later I received the BSOD.

What am I doing wrong that is causing this problem.

Thanks for any information you can give me.

Hello David,

What type of BSOD you are getting? Is it a "7B" type? If yes, this is tied to the mass storage drivers.

This is not a "plug and play" type driver and having the incorrect one will lead to all sorts of issues (usually a BSOD on boot up). The virtual machine disk controller is most probably using a different driver than whatever you have on your physical machine, so you might be facing the situation I described.

For newer systems, our "Universal Restore" functionality handles this problem automatically by replacing drivers during restoration. NT4.0 is not supported, however, so this will have to be investigated and fixed manually.

Thank you.
