adding Exchange add-on license to Hyper-V host?

Thread needs solution

I'm running Acronis Backup Advanced 11.5 for Hyper-V on my Hyper-V host. One of the VMs I'm backing up is Exchange 2007 and I want to be sure I am doing an Exchange-aware backup.

I have a license for Acronis Backup Advanced 11.5 for Exchange but I am unsure how to add the license to Acronis.

I'm going to the Licenses section of the application and hitting Change next to the license and if I type in just the Exchange key I get:

"One of the specified licenses is License for backup of Microsoft Exchange data, but must be License for backup of disks/files."

If I type in both my original and new key, original key first, I get:

"Cannot use several full licenses for a single host."

What am I doing wrong, and what do I need to do to be sure I can backup/restore Information Stores?

Thanks

OK, I believe the issue that the Exchange Agent must be installed inside the VM, so a separate Acronis installation - correct?

Would this be a full installation of Acronis, or a smaller Agent-only install?

Would backups still be managed by my main Acronis installation or would a separate job have to be created inside the Exchange VM?

Thanks

Yes, you need to install Agent for Exchange (and Agent Core) inside VM, and treat is as a physical machine - add to the Management Server if needed. Then you need to create separate backup task for Exchange data on this machine - infostores and/or mailboxes ( just a warning - backing up a lot of mailboxes is slow)

Thanks!

So, does the backup task run from within the Exchange VM, or does it run from the host? I'm asking because the storage device I'm using to store backups is directly accessible from the host but not the Exchange VM.

Also, if I do an Information Store backup can I restore individual mailboxes? Or do I need to backup individual mailboxes if I want that feature?

Thanks

It runs from within the VM. There is 'metadata collection level' (http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/AcronisBackup_11.5/i…) option that controls restore granulatity - down to an individual e-mail but at the cost of performance..

Most likely, functionality similar to Acronis Backup for VMware allowing backing up VM with Exchange from the host with granular recovery capability will be added in Acronis Backup 12.
