Backups Complete with Warnings, VSS failure, no disk image created

Thread needs solution

Hello all,

I am having trouble with B&R 11.5 creating a full disk image of my Active Directory Server. The logs show that it has completed with errors. I have a failure to create a VSS Snapshot, as well as failure to create a snapshot of my C:\. I have modified the VSS settings, thinking that was my original cause to both issues. I changed to "Select Provider Automatically"; the backup will still complete with errors. Please see attached Log Messages. I appreciate the help!

Hello Shane,

Thank you for your posting! Please proceed with the troubleshooting steps from the following aticle.

This article on troubleshooting snapshot issues could be helpful too.

Thank you,

Hello Ekaterina,

Thank you for the response. I followed up with those kb articles, which had me begin looking more closely at the Event Logs. I am finding one event Under System that may give further insight:

'Unable to start a DCOM Server: {72F28482-EFE4-4482-93F1-2AA164D3FD88}. The error:
"193"
Happened while starting this command:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis\VssRequestor64\vss_requestor.exe -Embedding'

It seems that the System is trying to call Acronis VSS and this is failing. I am researching what could be the root cause, but have not found any results yet. Any help would be appreciated!

Hello Shane,

Are you using Acornis VSS provider or Microsoft (System) provider? Please delete Acronis VSS provider from the registry as follows:

  • open Registry (Start - Run - regedit)
  • navigate to the fololowing key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\VSS\Providers\
  • export the key {f782463b-33bb-4043-ad8d-60b728d26a6c} - this is Acronis VSS provider - an delete it !Do not delete the second value! It's MS vSS Provider.
  • Reboot the machine then open the backup plan settings and select System provider.

Thank you,

Hello Ekaterina,

Sorry for the late reply,

I will remove the Registry key and reboot the server after business hours today. Once that is completed I will post back the results.

Thank you so much for your help!
