Is it possible to control the resulting virtual hardware version on the VMs created by Acronis?

Thread needs solution

We use Acronis Backup Advanced for VMware to backup physical workstations to a DR facility, into a VMware ESXi 5.5 host.
The resulting VMs show created with vmx-10 hardware level. We are having issues remoting to the VMs (RDP) using two monitors, which is perfectly possible without any tweaking on other systems running vmx-8. Not 100% sure is the hardware level is causing this. Tweaking the VMware settings on the VM with VMware Support has not solved the issue. This is the only thing I have not tried.

Notes:
+ AcronisESXAppliance also shows as vmx-10
+ Workstations' OS is Windows 7 Pro

Hi,

In the current product design it is not possible to define the virtual hardware version when you perform P2V conversion (recovery). In such cases we always create a VM with maximum hardware version supported by target ESXi host version (vmx-10 for ESXi 5.5). In case you back up a VM from ESXi and restore it as VM to ESXi - the original (source) hardware version is preserved since it can be tracked in the backup metadata.

The feature to allow virtual hardware version selection is present in our backlog, however there is no clear estimate on when we can add it (your request is actually the first one describing real scenario where this feature might be of use).

Therefore right now you have the following options:

1) Continue working with VMware on original RDP connection issues (if it's related to VM hardware version)
2) Set up ESXi 5.1 (vmx-9) or ESXi 5.0 (vmx-8) in your DR site and use it as repository for converted VMs.

Thank you.

Vasily,

Would it be possible to create an AcronisESXAppliance agent in an ESXi 5.0 (vmx-8) and then move it to an ESXi 5.5?
Will the resulting VMs be vmx-10 or vmx-8?

Thanks,

M.A.

I tried the above and was successful in moving the ESX agent to a 5.5 host but this did not help with the issue. Backup to VM conversions on ESXi 5.5 are still vmx-10.
