PXE Server does not accept WinPE image and Linux Image is not booting
Dear experts,
we have installed Acronis BR11.5 VE on a Windows server and want to serve the client a PXE image.
First we were starting with a linux image that should be copied to the RIS server. This was working as expected.
As soon as we started clients from (different machines) we recieved serveral errors directly after choosing the Acronis image (Blue Acronis Dos Screen) .
- Initial Ramdisk can not be loaded (German message reads: Initial Ramdisk kann nicht geladen werden)
- Linux Kernel can not be loaded (German message reads: Linux Kernel kann nicht geladen werden)
which results in a restart.
A WinPE image could once be setup. After trying to add some drivers to the WinPE PXE image the process of copying the image to the pxe server results in "Erstellen der Datei fehlegeschlagen. Error 0x180000" (File can not be stored/saved) after adding drivers etc.
When trying to prodiue the first image again without any additional drivers the same error occurs.
No logfiles are generated in the pxe-dir (Programmdata on W2K8R2) since the first day (when PE-PXE was generated) .
Can you please help here?
Thank you!
best regards,
Christian Wirth

Hello Christian, hello Martin,
Thank you for opening this thread. I am glad to assist you.
Christian, you described two different problems:
The first problem is with the Acronis Linux Bootable Media, it fails to load the Ramdisk and Kernel. There can be different reasons for Ramdisk load failure, starting from RAM memory lack on the destination machine, and ending with the Ramdisk corruption in the source. Please check the following steps to get more information about this problem:
- Burn the latest Acronis Linux Media to the CD and start the machine from CD.
- In boot menu ress F11 key and delete the word "quiet".
- Confirm with OK and start the media boot process. It will start in verbose mode.
- Make the photo of the last strings loaded to the screen.
- Try to start the product with /bin/product
You should also try booting the media with parameters acpi=off and noapic that might be helpful for some hardware. You should also check the the BIOS on the machine is up to date.
Additionally, give the description of the destination machine: RAM size, is it BIOS/UEFI, harddisk configuration and used interface.
The second problem is with loading the bootable image to the WDS server. It is a known limitation in Acronis Bootable Media Builder: [[Acronis Product Fails to Create Rescue Media on WDS Server]]. In order to workaround it, create a WIM-Image and load it to the WDS server or switch the WDS to legacy mode.
Let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.
