TIB to VHD Conversion = Dynamic Disk VHD?

Thread needs solution

Using ABR 11.5 Virtual Edition, I was able to take a tib from a physical server and restore it directly to my Hyper-V host. Way cool and very fast!

However, it created two files, a .VHD and a .VMC. What is the purpose of the .VMC? Do I need it or can I delete it? My VM hosts are running W2K8R2 Datacenter Edition.

Also, I was expecting the .VHD file to be the same size as the physical disk but it appears to be only as big as the amount in use. This implies that ABR created a dynamic disk and not a fixed disk. I prefer fixed disks. How does one perform a restore in this manner?

Thanks,
Vint

Hello Vint,

thank you for your posting!

.VMC is a virtual machine configuration file, you can read more about is here.

And disk format of a new virtual machine you can choose in Virtual machine settings while configuring a recovery task.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.
